I have recently bought a sv650s there seems to be a knocking noise coming from the front of the bike, it is a cluck - cluck noise in regular intervals, it sounds like some thing is knocking the calliper. I have checked the calipers and they are fine, everything is tight. I took the bike back to the dealer who sent me to a workshop. the guy at the workshop saifd this is normal as it has to do with the flotaing disks which is a known problem with Suzuki motorcycles.

I find this hard to believe as it does sound dodgy and irritates the living daylights out of me, it does not do it all the time but tends to also happen at low sppeds when slowing down and rolling to a stop or just rolling between taffic at low speed at about 15 mph. I have tried to find where this could be coming from but have not been able to find the source of the noise when it is happening I can also hear the knock if I push the bike - it will make the noise a knock/cluck sound I will push the bike back and when I push it forward again the noise wil happen again as if it is in the same place I have looked everywhere to find the source with no success.

Has anyone else with an sv650 experinced this?

The noise is driving me insane Twisted Evil

If it's happening at such low speeds - is it not possible to get a mate to weigh-down the back of the bike so that you can spin the front wheel. If the problem is related to weight on the front suspension - this wont help. But if not, it may make it a lot easier for you do identify the source of the noise.

I don't know how the speedo is driven on this model of bike - but if it's driven from a gear on the front wheel axle - that'd be my first port of call.

Bets of luck,

Sy.

Could be that the outer part of the disc has come slightly loose for some reason, exactly that happened on my SV and it made a nasty noise to walk the bike around as well as feeling noticeably 'lumpy' under braking. It's worth checking neither disc is moving around.

If it is you can replace the bobbins that hold the main part of the disc to the mounting part (technical terms Razz), although it might be a bit tricky (the old ones would have to be drilled out). You may be able to find a company willing to do it for you also. I just opted for a replacement disc courtesy of ebay.

I have also heard that floating discs can be very noisy.

I don't have floating discs on my R1, but I have a similar noise problem from the front brakes when going over bumps etc which isn't there with even the slightest pull on the brake lever. It's to do with the backing plates on mine and is apparently normal, although very irritating.

Yup, floating disks mate. Sad

My hornet did do the same, until I took off the front wheel, discs and removed the pads. Put it all back together and now it's fine. Can you not get someone to put their head beside the wheel and you move the bike to confirm where it is coming from? Give it time, say a couple of hundred miles and let us know if it's still happening.

However, my sv doesn't do this. Some do, some don't it appears. On the sv forum, there is a lack of reported problems on this actually so it might just be something wrong with your Confused
bike.

All I can say is to do some practise emergency stops to bed the front pads in.
