Hi,

I had a RamAir filter (foam), fitted onto the RD. I was at first running it with the stock 195 size main jet. But a few days ago, I put in a 210 and it was running very nice. The only problem was that it would flood itself when trying to start.

Anyway,

Today, I fitted the standard airbox, and took off the RamAir as it seemed to bog it down a bit and was crap in damp conditions. So I spent quite a while fitting it, changing carbs over, checking the float height etc, got it all right and fitted it all back on. Took it out for a spin, and the performance was rubbish. It was very slow through the gears when I would go flat out. Takes about 5-6 seconds to reach the powerband at 9000rpm, whereas before it would only take 2-3 seconds. Also, noticed that it is very spluttery through the revs. All the way til 9000 revs, its spluttering, bogging down. So I got home and looked at the carb, and I found that the carb was covered in condensation. Maybe this was nothing to do with the performance, but I am concerned at how sluggish it is now.

I think the problem may be that the bike is getting an uneven mixture of fuel and air, as the jet is now a 210, instead of the stock 195. So it could be that the jet is too big, and it letting in more fuel than air, resulting in it spluttering and bogging down a lot?

Any ideas?

Thumbs Up

Hi

Does sound quite possible that it is running far too rich. Get a few more jets and have a play.

Have a feeling the pilot jet on the RD was smaller on the full power ones than on the restricted ones.

All the best

Keith

You used to be able to get Ledar kits for rejetting when using ram air filters but to be honest I've never managed to get the set up to run properly on any bike. The last one I tried blew it's crank at 90MPH on the M1 it ran so rich. I would always say go back to the air box.
