As you probably know, I'm after a Gilera Runner 125SP. Many that I've come across have had a 172cc kit fitted, but not declared.

Other people have bought Runner 180's and changed the engine size on the V5 by notifying the DVLA.

What are the possible implications of this? Obviously if you had an accident and the insurance company found out, your insurance would be void? Would a garage notice when you MOT the bike? What sort of punishment could be given for an offence like this?

It just made me wonder as it seems like there are a lot of learners on bigger bikes

Hi

Insurance issues mainly. The DVLA might care but are unlikely to know, and the MOT tester might notice but will not care.

All the best

I didn't have any trouble like that, Neither did my friend he had a 172 at 17 & crashed 2x the insurance man came round to look at the damage but he aint gotta clue about bore kits as he would of said, Mot for peds he will just test the lights, Brakes, Put it on a dyno thingy & look for stuff like oil. They don't care really Smile

All you have to say if they did find out is you didn't know it had a 172 kit, I just brought it, But then again i only had tpo so if it got knicked or anything & they do find out you will go to court & get done for riding with no insurance. But i doubt they will, Always better to be safe then sorry. I'm always sorry
