Well my insurance claim has started to progress.

I found out that we (me and the car driver) are both with the same company, so that should speed things up.

I got a estimated damage report done from a local garage.

Parts and labour come to £1050, although the bike has only been insured for £1000, the bike is worth so much less. So im unsure what they will do. We also have to arrange a time for one of their engineers to come around and access the bike.

I was thinking, may be a stupid question but here I'll go,

I will lose my NCB if this guy claims from my insurance, but if i claim off of his insurance i wouldnt loose my NCB.

Now by claiming off of his insurance (which i hope to do) i will be, in turn claiming off my own insurance. This is confusing me, will i still have a NCB if i claim from his(mine) insurance company?

Nick

Common misconception. This actually slows things down. If there is an argument over liability, then in normal circumstances one insurer will issue proceedings against the other, however with you both being insured with the same company, they can't do this, as you cannot sue yourself....so if it's disputed liability, you could be in for the long haul.

Imagine it as two seperate insurance companies. In effect it is. It's probably not even the same department dealing with each of your claims. if you are found to be not at fault you WILL keep you NCB.

As far as i know he hasnt challenged the claim, so far.

Firstly they sent him out a letter, which he had 10 days to reply to.
As he didnt reply to it they sent out another letter which he had 7 days to reply to, im not sure if he did/didnt yet.

I'm not really sure how these things work.

lol insurance companies give you ten days to reply but most work on a backlog situation so they won't get round to dealing with it for 3 weeks anyhow.

Keep ringing them, thats the only way to progress it quickly. Wink

wat happened in the incident?

Simply,

I was riding along, saw my mates in a bus stop, indicated, braked while trying to pull in and he hit me up the arse and i went sliding down the road.

Police said it we were both riding/driving with undue care and attention, as i didnt check my mirrors before pulling in, and he was right up my arse and not paying attention.

My dad, who is processing the claim has managed to get help for a solicitor from the BMF, which is useful.

So if the other driver admits liability (and in my case he was done for dangerous driving) you still keep your NCB, is this true?

Your NCB is affected when you intimate a claim on your policy. However it is reinstated should your insurers make a full recovery from the liable third party.

If your renewal happens to fall during the middle of the claim whilst liability is being discussed, you will have an increased premium as you have a claim live on your policy.

Once liability is agreed however any increased premium that you incurred can be claimed back as an uninsured loss against the liable party's insurer. But you will require a letter for your insurer proving how much the premium increased by. Very Happy
