preparing panels for spraying

hello, wondering if anyone has any links to sites that give information on how to prepare bike panels for respraying.

Just sprayed one myself lol

u want to sand it wits some sandpaper to take the shine off it, then spray it with a thin coat of primer,

then lightly sand that, and lightly spray with primer again. do this about 3 or 4 times. then sand lightly once more, and spray lightly with colour, sand and repeat 3-4 times. then apply your laquer. 3 or 4 coats again

dont forget to clean all sanding residew off thouroughly between coats, and to allow each coat to dry well. at least 30 min

there's a couple of threads on here talking about spraying pannels

i recently did this so i'll explain what i did

buy some wet/dry from halfords grade 600 to 1200

wash ur pannels down and make sure there free from grease

spray with an atomiser and get scrubbing with 600 wet/dry

keep going until your hands are dripping with paint

when u think ur done have a coffee then come back and keep scrubbing

keep going until you take all the gloss off the origional paint work
(you'll be able to tell cos in the light it wont shine like it used to)

take all decals off and scrub the area so its all smooth

once this is done wash with clean water and leave to dry

when dry get a can of plastic prima (white is best) and start spraying in even half coats leaving 15 mins between each half coat

keep building it up until u have 3 coats.

leave over night to dry then scrub with 1200 wet/dry and wash off. leave to dry

pannels are now ready for main colour


preperation is everything for this, DONT try taking short cuts cos altho it might look good quickly it will soon go wrong and you'll have to start from the start again
