i was ill for 2 weeks and now my bike doesnt start.

previously it would fire up straight away without even touching the choke and worked fine before i put it in the garage for 2 weeks, now the starter motor turns and the FI system is pumping petrol through, it thumps a little but doesnt seem to catch on no matter how long i hold the starter button.

i have recharged the battery and checked the back spark plug, im trying to get at the front but its a real pig to get at, no wires seem lose and i was just wondering if anyone had any hints, i doubt its anything major as i had no problems before i didnt use it for a fortnight.

Sorry for the stupid questions here, but you've got no replies so far so.....

Arrow Got petrol?

Arrow Petrol tap on?

Arrow Try changing petrol - might have gone off.

Arrow Do all the electrics work ok?

Arrow Give plugs a good clean

Arrow Maybe try bump starting it? (electrically via car and then down a hill)

Can't help after that, but these are things I've checked when a bike won't start, and one of the above has always fixed the problem Thumbs Up

check the plug is sparking, put it in the cap and hold it against the barrel, then crank the motor. You may want to stuff summat in the plug hole to prevent yourself from ignitiongh whats in there lol

Your looking for a nice bright blue spark. Orange or yellow is bad.

Plugs carbon up in use, then are a pig when starting a cold bike. Also they get far worse if sat unused for any length of time.

My XJ would absolutely point blank refuse to start if I left it for a few weeks.

Just leave it, and come back to it later. A good bump start usually helps, I could start the XJ even when the head gasket had gone with a good bump start.

I'm lucky enough to live at the top of a hill.
