James Haydon set the fastest ever two-wheeled lap of the Brands Hatch grand prix circuit to claim pole start for the double race finale to the Bennetts British Superbike Championship – the Rizla Suzuki rider upstaged the title chasing duo of Gregorio Lavilla and Ryuichi Kiyonari who again had contrasting fortunes.
Haydon powered around the 2.623 mile Kent grand prix circuit in 1m 25.920secs, an average speed of 109.28mph:

Some good pics there! Thumbs Up

What camera and lens do you use? If its Canon, looks like you have a 70-200L or near abouts.

Same camera as myself! Very Happy Although the only telephoto lense I have is the Sigma 70-300 APO. Had the camera for over a year but still not managed (due to shifts at work mainly) to get to Knockhill to take pics.

The contrast in composition and style from your 2004 pics to the 2005 pics is vast, you have obviously learnt a lot over the past year. My photography has been taking a back seat lately Sad .

Swaffs what bloody settings are you using to get those backgrounds blurred?? Every bloody action shot I take looks like the bike's not even moving! Background and wheels are perfectly static! (Shooting in sport mode)

And I have GOT to get me one of those kick-arse lenses!!

(Great pics too btw! Wink)

You need a shutter speed of 1/320 or less. See link below.

Think with most of the Canon cameras the sports mode sets the ISO setting to 400 and then shoves the shutter speed up quite high.

Generally when I am taking panned shots beside the track (generally using a Canon 20D with a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lense) I use a shutter speed of 1/125 to 1/200, the slower shutter speeds giving a better picture but a higher ratio of garbage pictures. Normally ISO 200 is fine to get this shutter speed with a reasonable depth of field.

You can get away with higher shutter speeds on head on shots, but for these to work you need proper track side access rather than being behind the spectator fences.

All the best

Keith

I'm useing a Canon 300d, with a basic cannon 75-300mm lens for track work the static bikes were taken using hte canon 18-55mm lens that came with the camera.
Shutter speeds are genrally 1/125, sometime going up to 1/200 for faster moveing bikes.

Love the second one down by Se7en.

Some excellent shots, Jay's are good too! Shame there's a fence in the way for the highchair burnout.
