Look at the time people, I've just finished watching some intensely annoying Polly Pocket adverts for my Media Studies, and now I'm riled up and want something to rave about. Anyway -

I reckon a decent alternative to the current karma system would be the same as we have now, but with a strength rating. For example, if someone posts on every area 'Join my forum, www.tithead.com, it's much better than this one' you could give a 5* spam rating.

On the other side, for example, a very nice BCFer gave me a tax overview for my next years wages as I have started a second job recently. I was extremely grateful to this member, and when I had rated the posts that led to this act of kindness as helpful, felt I had done them some sort of injustice. (I did offer to give them a bit of cash as well. Mr. Green ) So in a similar way to the spam one, I would have given them a 5* helpful rating.

I just figure whilst some posts might be quite helpful or quite funny which could warrant a 1, 2 or 3 * rating, others are very helpful, or spit-beer-over-the-keyboard funny, which might warrant a 4 or 5* rating.

What do people think? Just a musing... Thinking

Are you talking about the post ratings system or the karma system? Smile

They are connected.
Post ratings do effect karma.

But I think he was reffering specifically to the karma system.

I would like to see some more flexiblity in the post rating system and the way karma is gained / loss. But then, people are going to try and abuse pretty much any system.

People are crap.

Erm, how much did you have?

Are you sure it wasn't just the point of changing from 5 green blobs to one red?

If not, well the karma system is fickle Smile - mine has been jumping about between 3 and 4 blobs for a while.

I had 5 green blobs one day and then logged off, the next day I had 2-3 red ones? Confused

I assume green is good and red (ok orange) is bad?

Each blob takes twice as long to fill up as your previous blob, and when you have completely filled five green blobs they will be collapsed into one full gold blob and the process begins again - only this time your new empty blobs will fill with gold and not green colour.

A ha, so organy is infact gold (& good), and not the stage in between green and red as I once thought.

Thanks Ste, (post rated informative)
Thumbs Up

I would like to see 'Very funny' and 'STFU' added to the post ratings system. Although there are plenty of options sometime I think others are needed.

What about a custom rating? Rate it positive or negative and type in whats it's for?

ie 'bullsh1t' or 'fantastic'.

But how easy would it be to abuse! Laughing

'Spelled antidisestablishmentarianism wrong'

'Don't like his avatar, it's gay'

'Post was too short, but too long as well'

'I want a biscuit'

It could cause problems if abused. I expect it would take a lot of mod work though.

But could be fun.

Another thing we should have is a yawning emoticon. I just feel like yawning at some of the posts on here. Smile
