I have seen a quad bike go up a hill that was about 45 degrees to the horziontal.

I know that with a run up, a dirt bike could go up something very steep getting slower as it gets to the top, but how steep could 400 dirtbike climb at a steady speed ?

either on grass or on a track with loose dirt and stones

too many variables to that question, depends what 400 how its geared, the hill surface, what tyres you are using...there is no real answer to that. Wink

I have the purple helmets video "Total Shite". At one point ten honda C90s (one after the other) are ridden up a 60 degree slope covered in loose scree on a six day trials stage in Spain.

I took my GPZ500s up Hardknott pass, two-up with camping gear and that hits 30 degrees, it didn't really struggle to pull up, just kept grounding out on the switchbacks.
