Service?

My bike is coming up to 6000 miles now... Thinking it might be a good idea to take it in for a service

Also haven't cleaned the chain at all, just lubed it, read someting quite recently (Thanks to bendy's faq thread) that lubing a dirty chain makes a lovely grinding paste, so I want to get the chain and sprokets done, there's also a vibrating noise that I think I've traced to my mirror (RHS) and clutch lever, will try and sort that myself.

Any ideas how much a checkup would be?

For a cg125, I would never pay over £100. If you want c&s fitted, it might cost up to £85. Do you want a replacement set? £55 or thereabouts should get you chain and sprockets.

Such simple little things, theres a good chance all they'll do is change the oil, oil filter, air filter, lube some cables, adjust the chain and check/alter the spark plug gaps.

Get a quote firstly.

I presume this is basically just to get the service manual stamped?

Not really, it's not running as well as when I first got it, and I don't trust myself to carry out some of my maintainance! (Plus I dont have a garage!

There is very little do go on a CG.

Take it to a small independant garage, no need to pay honda rates. At 6k I expect it'll need oil and filter, air filter, valve clearances (very easy and only 2 of them) and a spark plug. Probably £10-15 in pattern parts and an hours labour, maybe 1.5.

I haven't got a garage either. I take all my stuff out of my 3rd floor flat, down in the lift, then take up two car-park spaces playing with nuts, bolts, oil and whatnot. Spent about £60 on parts, and used up two holiday days from work. One to do all the work on, and the second to "test" it all

Cleaning the chain was something I'd never done myself before. Sat there with a can of cleaner, a toothbrush, and a lot of old rags. Doesn't take long, and I found out that my chain was gold Looked great, felt satisfying.

Filters, plugs etc. are a lot easier than you think. Once you do them once, you'll want to do them every 3 months. New oil in a bike makes a great difference.

On top of all of that, doing the work yourself makes you feel all macho

If you're DIYing it just do the oil and filter, air filter, spark plugs. You'll fuck up the valve clearances.
