Sorry for the amount of ZX7 threads but as I am possibly getting rid of my ZX7R worth £3700, I am also considering selling the VFR as well and getting something reliable for less than £3500, basically to take a chunk out of my increased debt.

As some of you said before, most modern day 600’s can match the ZX7R for performance, in response I said I would own a 600 if it wasn’t for the fact they sound lame and often look tame.

So, I have my eyes set on a ’01 – ’04 CBR600RR, black, or Repsol colours.

Would this really be competition for the 7R, and why?

Are there any other bikes for around the 3-3.5K mark that could match the 7R for looks and performance?

I don’t like the look of the gixxer, so don’t even bother…..

Killa

There is the older ZX6R's if thats your thing?

for £2500 you can have a nice J and for about £3000 you can have a nice A1P (same as J with 636 engine)

After this is the B model for £3500ish for a nice one which is much more track oriantated than the older J/A1P style ZX6's

If thats not your thing there is the CBR600 F sport for about £3000

The RR's are a little later and are more money £3500+ I think, but they were not released in 2001.

What about a yamaha R6?

For £2000 - £2500 buys you a nice early one and add a bit more for every year you get newer.

But shopping carefully must mean trawling ebay/bike trader etc and phoning a lot of people and finding the right bike at the right price rather than rushing into a dealer with starry eyes and £3500 in your pocket burning a hole.

Have a look on Biketrader, bang in £2000-£4000 and see what comes up. See what you like the look of, then come back here and ask people's opinions on selected options.

The CBR-RR is a fantastic bike, albeit seeming to be the two wheeled equivalent of a Ford Focus. Looks great, goes well, don't really go wrong, every other person's got one. Keep it above 8k (I've heard they're a bit gutless) and it'll run rings around the 7R.

Cant get more reliable than a ZX7R. Go one down on the front, 2 up on the back, and it'll wheelie all day in 1st and 2nd (have to clutch it in 2nd!) And still have a topspeed of 150-160mph!

Dont go to Honda!!!! Honda = Camchain problems!!!

Thumbs Up

Have you confused Kawasaki with Honda? Only Hondas I've heard of with camchain issues are the first set of chocolate-cammed VF750s. As for Kawasaki's realiability....... Neutral Question

You should know the Blade is the worst for the Camchain problems if not maintained properly! Thumbs Up

Thanks a lot for the recommendations guys, the ZX7 is an awesome machine and the looks are to die for, I get comments from all sorts, not just bikers…..
I have to sell her though, it would be stupid not to I guess, but that naughty side of me wants to keep her!

If the Honda just blew up suddenly and I bought the Kwak, I guess that would be ok, but the fact is, the Honda runs now, so I should get rid of the Kwak. Crying or Very sad
When the Kwak is sold I have the option of not paying my loan payment every month because such a large chunk will come off.

SP1, the VTR is my dream bike, but for some daft reason the insurers laughed at me….

Killa you should get a decent quote for an SP1.

I looked into getting one for uni and my quote at 19 2 years riding, 0ncb with an accident was only £1100 TPO.

There have been no recalls I've heard of with the RR problems are quite common on the F models though.

The RR is flat bellow 7k, keep it over that and you wont lose much on anything. Same old story though a good rider on a crap bike will drum a crap rider on a good bike.

I've been outrode by really old CBR's and I've left GSXR1000K5's for dead, 99% of it down to the rider on the road so I wouldn't worry about being dropped by people.
