Baring in mind that i am a young rider and insurance will be an arse to say the least. i definatly like the zx6r the most but will the insurance be very high, and i just had a look and there a few on biketrader that are going for cheap.

Then either get a reasonable bike to insure or stop moaning about it Rolling Eyes

On serious note, all those will be about the same to insure, the thundercat might work out cheaper... but get quotes on them all to find out, and if they're all the same sort of price then just buy the bike you like the most...

I have recently passed my test and have test ridden some bikes. I have tried the thundercat and gsxr600 and a few others.

I prefer the thundercat over the gsxr600 it has a more quality feel. It doesnt feel quite as fast as the SRAD gsxr600 i tried and it doesnt turn quite as quick but its not far off. For me the thundercat has a more quality feel.

Thundercats tend to be cheaper to buy than the other two.

I would suggest that you pass your test and try out all three to see what you prefer.

You can get test rides from dealers with your license and a passport. You can get test rides from private sellers such as the ones on ebay with security of the full cash value.

Private buyers are better as some of the dealers dont bother to keep the batteries charged on their bikes so you may need to call for a pickup when it wont start after getting petrol.

Private buyers sell for much cheaper and although dealer's bikes may have been looked over by a mechanic, they can be twice the price.

This thundercat went for £1000 a few minutes ago but you would normally pay £1500.

I paid £100 insurance for a thundercat for 6 months to replace the GS500 i insured for £270 (£370 in total).

17 years old, 0 ncb, passed Feburary. Cool

Oh and I can ride any other bike and I am covered TPF+T

Not being funny but I would never trust a mechanic as far as I could throw him, specially from the dealers around here.

Well first of all the ZX6R pic is of a 2000+ J model, the 1999 is a G model, G has a single headlight whereas the J has a twin one.

Out of the 3, I'd go for the ZX6R, Not because I have one but I feel it's probably the better 'sports' bike. Have a look at a CBR600, They're nice bikes too.

i would but both of my brother have em so i want something different.

could you tell me what kind of problems if any you have had with the bike and if you think that a 30,000 + mileage one would be a handful.

cheers.

The Cat was my 3rd favourite bike, after the TT600, and ZX6R when i was choosing my 600 5years ago. It's still a great bike now, and if you look after the finish it should be great!
Everyone wants something different, so we won't all agree on a best choice of bike. The G-series ZX6R would also be great, and if your picking it has much better build quality and finish than the Cat or SRAD, and little things to make servicing easier like the Grease nipples on the rear suspension linkage, that everyone else is still yet to follow.
Id really rarther not have a CBR 600, but if it came down to either that or an SRAD, i suppose i could put up with the Honda under protest!

Normally what I would say, but you can take it too far Razz.

By the way, I believe that's a 2000 zx6r, the 99 has a single headlight.

I had a J2 model (one pictured is probably j1 if it's 2000) and can reccomend it as an all rounder that can be pretty sporty if you want or handle a trip to the shops. However since then the riding position I like has evolved to a more sporty one.

I would whole-heartedly agree with McGees last statement.

If i hadnt done test rides I could well have bought a gsxf 600 after all they are cheap. Because I did test rides I knew it wasnt the bike for me.

My ZX6R has been fine, coming upto 19,000 miles now. It's physically quite a big bike, so shorties may have a few problems, It kind makes it feel heavier than it actually is but my G1 is apparently 175kg dry. The motor is VERY strong, pulls from low down but still has a good topend rush, the riding position is quite comfortable too.

It's not the ultimate track tool but perfectly fine for trackdays, I dont it would be far off the pace of the latest 600's.
