What they like? Worth buying for a year or 2? are they quick? are they restricted and how quick with a sports pipe?

Depends. If you have been riding a 50cc ped for a year or two the powerband will scare the bejesus out of you, enough to make the front go light. I have been on one a couple of times, a friend has a field bike and a road bike sitting in his garage. They are a good laugh and can do everything (apart from long motorway runs). And when combined with supermoto rims and tyres they are some seriously good handling shit.

You haven’t heard?!

The DT is a lovely machine mate, um, the 125 is anyways, I’ve always hated the standard ones, they are so tame.
The ride is not too stiff and it is has nice handling.
They are quick with the Dep full system.
Maintenance is piss easy.
Fuel consumption is superb.
You should have any major problems from one that has had a good home.

TBH there isn’t a lot you need to know about, avoid the early 90’s ones.
Had to post a pic of my 04 machine

Edit:- Sorry forgot to mention, with the DEP system installed you should hit 80-85mph, I’m sure.
Oh and that is the DTR not DT

They were 12bhp restricted but I have a feeling they might now be 16bhp. Derestricting them brings them up to 22-24 bhp, different tail pipe might give a bit more. They are pretty quick once done. I think restricted they are good for an indicated 70-75mph expect an indicated 90ish when derestricted depending on wind and how "chunky" you are Embarassed

There are several postings if you search on how to derestrict them, it depends on the year and model.

Ive found an 04 plate with 2500 miles for £2100 (bog standerd) in black. Dad seems to be happy with the price and bike, evan tho i thoguht it was a bit steep (i had been looking to spend £1200 max on my next bike)

Also would an akrapovik pipe not be better? And can i get a nerw dep pipe poeder coated in black or something?

Id take a DT125 or KMX over a sportsbike 125 anyday of the week, as they do generally seem tougher, stronger and more reliable. The plus point of being able to have extra fun off road, is also another reason why a trailie could be better than a sports 125.

Has anyone ever ridden a DT200R? I just wonder how it would compare to the KMX/MTX.

couldn't agree more, plus if you drop them there is no faring to worry about. When I was leaning I had a KMX 125 minus restrictor, fantastic bike.....

MTX200 is very old and rare, only put out about 20 bhp, think it only had front drum as well. DT 200 is an import, never seem one but like the sound of it, I had a KMX 200 as well, 30 BHP, really shifted, lovely bike, only problem with it was it had a 17" rear wheel rather than 18" which limited the choice of back tyre. Wish I had kept the KMX 200.....

I have one, they're great bikes never have any trouble starting them or anything they go on forever! You will get an indicated 80mph with the DEP pipe but you're doing a real 75mph you'd be pushed to get anything over 80mph on a dtr125. If you need any help tweaking the powervalve send me a PM, it's very easy once you know how to adjust the pulleys - you can adjust it so you have a)super short kicky powerband b)loads of torque c)somewhere in between.

If it's a completely standard bike you're getting I'd make a small parts list, with some tweaking and extra parts you can get them looking like a real road legal motocross bike and not some wimpy learner legal trailie Laughing

here's mine :

and here's a graph showing differences between stock and DEP pipes :

Another person who's owned one of the most fun to ride bikes out there! My latest 200 is still in bits, but ive cleaned up whats left of the piston, and im going to make a pen holder out of it mainly cos im bored lol!
The MTX125 was 20bhp (full power) i think, but the 200 was 27bhp AFAIK, and so that would be a bit more fun i would imagine!
Iv'e seen a few DT200R's mainly in Greece, but ive always wanted one, as the 125 is such a nice bike the 200 version must be a belter!

Great bikes. Will do an indicated 60mph restricted (thats what mine did..) About 80 de-restricted.

I paid £900 for mine, 2004 model, with 1500 miles on it, in VERY good condition for the price i paid.

Then 4 weeks later it was nicked while i was at work. Rolling Eyes

My first bike! I loved it but like most others it was stolen after 2-3 months from the centre of Birmingham city centre at lunchtime on a Tuesday!!! I went to the cash point, came back and it was gone.

lol. Noticing a pattern here, all of them get nicked. Must be some pikies somewhere with a large collection of matt black field bikes.

If you live in south london, get luck getting insured for TPFT! For my XR in north london, nobody would quote me for less than 1300! So my theory is get a cheap DT and insure TPO only! Wink Thumbs Up Funilly enough they're just as expensive or more expensive to insure if you're doing general insurers. Give motorcycle direct a buzz Thumbs Up
