Kinda hard to know.

Looks like a race can so no.

Not sure about the legality of the number plAte either (or whether the indicators would pass an MOT edit - iNFACT, DO THEY HAVE A STAMP ON THE LENS? Wink)

Sorry, newbie question:

Race exhausts are illegal for the noise or the HP they provide? If hp for learners, ok. But if for the noise, do cars like ferraris get tested the same way?
Sorry if dufus Wink

Noise, and cars get tested rather more strictly.

All the best

the law on exhaust noise levels for mot's was changed last year, as the existing legislation was messy and unenforcable.

you had to have a stamp for bsau193...etc for construction and use regs and the mot, but the check was always whether the stamp was there, not whether it was actually legit.....

https://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/publications/section%207.1%20-%20exhaust%20systems.pdf

exhaust page from the mot testers manual.

note: it states ".......assess the effectiveness of the silencer(s) in reducing as far as possible the noise emitted.

and the only reason for faliure is if ".........the noise emitted is in excess of that which would be produced by a similar machine fitted with a standard silencer in average condition."

no mention of bs or E numbers or dB levels....

in other words, its up to the tester whether he thinks its ok.

it does specifically exclude exhausts marked "not for road use" though

noise, however, italien bikes and cars are tested there to comply with necessay EU regs. italiens like the sound so they are far easier to please. for example, there is no way ferraris are legal, the 360 for example. however, italy issue the approval. same with some dukes aswell (according to i think it was bike, anyway)

Ducatis still pass the rules. Think the car test is something like a pass at 5500 rpm at 30mph, and it has to be below 96db. There are a few little tricks you can pull to make it seem quiter, one is to test at higher altitude where the air is thinner.

Also ducati look at just passing the existing emissions legislation. The japanese big four are more pushed towards exceeding current regs and pushing on towards passing the next set of regs - basically running as quietly and cleanly as they can.

Bollocks. I'm not exactly observant and thought mine was unmarked, guess not. Sad

Guess I'll do some polishing come MOT time, or see if I can persuade the stock can to go on Micron pipes. Confused

Used to have a 2.2 honda prelude, had a de cat'd stainless steel exhaust, was loud as fuck, passed MOT no problem though
Cops usually look for the BS stamp rather then there being no markings on the can at all.

BS ISO 362 dictates the driveby noise level for cars. To pass it, cars need to produce less than 74dBA re 20μPa at a distance of 7.5m when accelerating in 2nd and 3rd gears from 50 km/h between lines A-A and B-B on the attached diagram.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/drivebynoiseiso362.gif

See the attached document for the text of the standard.

I seen that diagram before McHaggis. I assume if you get pulled and they see the NFRU = Fine.

I've heard of people getting done (dunno if true though) of Traffic Cops using handheld sound measuring deviced, holding it near exahust. Doesnt that mean that the handheld thing means nothing in a legally binding sort of way?
