I know the engine is detuned and i know its practically a naked bike, but would it turn in as quick as a tt600 ? I like handling on a tt600 i had a go on. Can I assume that the speed four will feel the same when not accelerating ?

is the rake angle the same ? are the forks the same ?

Everything is the same except the yokes are dropped by 5mm (I think) making the steering a little faster.

The engine has a bit more midrange and slightly less top end.

Just buy a bike and put us all out of this misery.

Well if you buy the race bike I'm going to point and laugh.

If you need to ask why then you have poor judgement...

I'd buy the speed 4 at the drop of a hat...

the ONLY thing that wouyld hinder me, is lack of fairing from a weather protection/windblast perspective.. nothing to do with speed.

Hi

Of the 2 I would go for the speed 4 every time. The track bike would be barely saleable and useless for transport. As a track bike it is probably a good enough deal.

Only thing that worries me with the speed 4 is the mention of the minor damage to the seat, etc, on a newish bike. Makes me suspect it might have had a hard life.

For the use you mention for a bike the lack of a fairing is not a problem. May even be an advantage.

A legal can should be easy to buy.

All the best

Keith

yeah i got a price on fitting a tt600 front fairing, screen and headlight as £200, A triumph delaer has now told me a place that turn a blind eye to race cans for mot's so i wouldnt need a new can.

The only thing is the speed four guy is now talking about waiting until spring til the prices pick up.

I have a TT600 standard can in my garage that would fit it...

Its a bit scraped (its off of my old TT6 - the one I bought pre crashed) I'm sure you could have it for a nominal fee.

I'm not sure how easily it will attach to the exhaust flange, but I think its doable - and if its just for the MOT it should be fine.

Just come to me and buy a new Speed Four. I'll do you a deal on the price and you get a free Alarm, Hugger, Bellypan and Rad Cowls. I've got a nice blue one in stock...

Personally, I'm not keen on the Speed 4, as I found the front end a bit flighty and had a few scarey moments where the bars went lock to lock quickly. I found the TT600, and the Daytona 600 to be better bikes, but my friend has a Daytona 600 and prefers the Speed4.

Think alot of it's personal choice. I'd test ride both and see what suits you.

(This comes from a biased view of owning a Daytona 600, with a steering damper, so the front *would* feel a bit flighty, but not much as I remember my D6 being,....)

You dont see many speed fours, so thats one good reason to buy one. Id never buy a CBR6, ZX6R or GSXR6 etc ever again, cos every arsehole wants them!

what chris is saying is interesting to me, as coming from an rs125, most 600s feel too stable for me as i want something that turns in as fast as my rs125.

I am a big fan of doing test rides but the speed four is 3 hours away on a fairly complciated route.

The furthest id travel for a test ride when im not sure i want to buy is 2 hours and i'd want a simple route.

I am starting to think maybe I shd just get a cheap thundercat and keep the rs125 for my twisties.

I probably should test out the speed four as from descriptions it does sound good.

As long as the weathers good I should be ok I spose. It might actually be a nice ride as its not much motorways.

To be honest mate, if you get a bike, the more you use it and practise with it, the quicker it'll turn in. My bike's so flickable (with the damper) now I'm used to it, but it's so planted at the same time. Never does it feel like it's losing grip, which is what the Speed4 feels like. If you can get over to a dealer, try them all out! (The new speed 3 is *sweet* by the way. Wink )

the thing for me when test riding was that more stable bikes take the thrill and adrenalin out of riding fastish.

the tt600 still felt exciting at 60 like my rs125 whereas the thundercat felt safe and completely under control

its hard to know why i have more fun on a 'twitchy' bike but I do.

Its not that I couldnt get the thundercat to go round bends, i could and it went round like it was on rails but it felt like i could go a lot faster and just felt safe rather than exciting

the vfr750 was the best example of this as i felt like i could ride at 80 all day without being tired as no adrenalin was required

when you say speed 3, is that speed triple ? or the 675 daytona triple ?

There's nothing like a great big wobble when you're cranked right over to wake you up. Neutral It's only fun on roads with a good surface or ones you know well enough not to get caught by surprise bumps. When your rear suspension is far too stiff and it bunny hops rather than absorbing any bumps it all adds to the excitement.

The thrill of riding an unknown, bumpy, windy road certainly comes partly from the scariness of riding a bendy-framed little bike with too much front travel, no rear travel and bits falling off all the time.* Even before I adjusted the suspension for luggage, the bike wobbled in the corners, now it does it even worse. Were it not for learning how to trail the front brake, I'd probably be in the middle of a car or in a hedge by now. Confused

*Two weeks ago I lost a reflector from a front fork, I felt the stinging as it hit my leg on the way past. Last week I lost a bolt holding the pair of spotlights on the front, and two nuts holding a bit of chromed trim on. Laughing My taillight also spontaneously decided to stop working the one time I rode in the night. Rolling Eyes

Twitchy = fun? Thinking .... Thumbs Up Twisted Evil

twitchy keeps things fun for me without me having to go faster to get a bit of adrenalin

my mood on bikes has shifted a bit this evening and im thinking maybe instead of trying to get a 600 which handles like my rs125, i keep the rs125 for the back roads and short blasts and I have a 600 for A roads and longish trips. This will actually be cheaper than having one bike which can do both.

I dont really need to overtake on the back roads as there is no traffic.

This mood is influenced by a thundercat which looks like its gonna go for cheaper than I had originally thought.

what does 'trail the front brake' mean ?

Ever thought it wasn't twitchy because you weren't pushing it?

I've had a few bikes now and my current the CBR400 is one of the most stable I've had beside the GSXR but when pushing both of them they both still got twitchy. I guess its because some bikes ae capable of a lot more than others, personally I find a bike thats stable more fun because when it starts getting twitchy you know you're pushing it and can think about what you're doing to try and keep it a bit more stable.

this is true but I think the only bike i would want to push to its limits is a minimoto. I will ride a rs125 closer to its limits than a 600 but having said that, I dont think I was anywhere near the limits of the tt600 and it still felt fun.

I have been riding a year and I dont feel the need to go faster than 100mph

Im sure a lot more fun can be had from bikes by going as fast as you can but Im happier staying relatively safe.

Even if i got an r1 (insurance for me £475) i would still stay below 100mph pretty much all of the time.

Im test riding an r1 tomorrow.

r1 is with a private seller
the triple was with a dealer
the dealer was worried about the weight of the bike for me
the r1 is lighter

needless to say i will not be full throttleing the r1 and will be just testing out how it handles rather than how fast it accelerates

If I was selling a bike and some cock like you came round to test ride it with no intention at all of buying it I'd punch you in the face, more than once.

Absolutely agree with Shaun there, what a cunt you really are, this private guy might have stopped offers from elsewhere or pulled his advert out because he thinks he is onto a sell and all you are going to do is piss about on his bike and then leave. No intention of buying at all.
