Just last week......I unfortunately decided to come of my bike while going round a roundabout; it was raining a little but nothing to worry about.

Everything was ok….. Nobody was behind or in front of me so it was just a question of me surfing along on my butt until I stopped….. The bike decided to take a different route to myself, and ended up off the road on to the grass verge.

I dusted myself off and picked my bike up, not much damage just a few aesthetics so I wasn’t too annoyed.

Anyway what I’m getting at is this particular roundabout seems to have a strip halfway round which seems to be of a completely different tarmac. The roundabout is the entrance to a housing estate where my g/f lives…….. I was talking to my g/f parents and they’ve said how bad this roundabout is in the wet for cars let alone bikes……and on asking a few next-door neighbors they agreed it was bad, but only in the wet.

I went to inspect the tarmac, and when wet it seems to become like a highly polished wood table ……..

I was just wondering if anyone has seen this before and do they know some more specific details about it, because it is dangerous and before I go saying something I would like to have my facts right……..

Thanks

Sorry to hear that mate. Might want to strike it off your 'knee down' locations list. Wink

Hi

There are loads of different tarmacs used. However there have been stories of some kind that is commonly used which tends to have virtually no grip for a few months after it is laid when it is wet. SMA I think the the name.

All the best

Hi

This only mentions problems in the dry, but I think I have read elsewhere about early life wet weather problems as well.

I know exactly what you’re on about here.
There is road surface like this where you have people constantly in and out of the housing estates etc.
Maybe contact the council, do it now and they might look into it when your drawing you pension.
