Hi
Generally I don't.
Took ages to find a standard can for the little Cagiva Freccia (which is ironically louder than a freshly packed Arrow silencer).
FZ has a road legal non standard exhaust. Same for Charlottes GPZ and ZZR.
Only one with a noisy exhaust is the Bandit which is on there for performance reasons, but still gets run 99% of the time with the road baffle in to make it road legal.
Personally find the exhaust noise to be about as pleasant as the other waste products of the bike, like dirty engine oil.
All the best

Because it came with the bike, and the original didn't.
Kept it because (a) I like the sound and (b) I have a friendly MOT man. ____________________ With experience comes age. |

because thats how i got it plus all those cagers can say "sorry i didnt see you" but they cant say they didnt hear me
apart from the one guy who decided that he would pull in to my lane with out looking and without indicating. So i thought i would make some (allot) of noise to let him know that i was a little un happy with his driving, so pulled the clutch in reved to the red line beeping my horn (for what its worth) and then nothing, he didnt even look in his mirror to see what all the racket was about what a C*nt, and then did the same thing about half a mile down the road
okay rant over ____________________ **************Honda CBR 600 FR***********

For my part I think they are selfish brat devices.
Only brings the wrath of the anti bike brigade down upon us.
Jeremy Clarkson does have a very valid point.
I may want to sit with my wife/GF/family and sip a quiet beer or ten in my garden some sunny arvo. Then the peace is rudely shattered by some insensitive hooligan on a bike.
No need for it.

When I bought my bike (from my brother) it had the noisy can on. Pretty sure he doesn't have the original, but can't remember why. I'm sure my MOT guy will be friendly too. If not, I'll replace it at MOT time, and see if the noisy one is worth selling.
When I first got it, I said I'd replace the exhaust straight away with a quieter one. I hate the fact that people turn round and stare when I'm going through high streets, from about 20 yards away..... I haven't replaced it because I'm both lazy and skint. Oh, and I got used to the noise (or have gone slightly deafer than I was). It's not THAT noisy, I guess, but it's a little too much.
I don't get the reasoning of people who want it to be noisy in crowded areas. I'm never going that fast through those areas anyway, and I'm worried that I'm bothering people. Most of the time in high streets, I'm trying to keep it below 4,000rpm to stop it being so noisy.
I do (and always have) love the fact that a noisy can will be heard/seen on the motorway a lot more. I enjoy seeing people look in their mirrors as I get near to overtaking them. Means I use my horn a lot less than I have done previously on other bikes. Also seems to mean people move over to the empty lanes on their left on motorways a lot more often than if I was quieter. If it's because they want me out of their way, or can't stand the noise, or think I'm moving at twice the speed of light, then great. I want them out of my way, and in the correct lane
I dream of a switch that makes it virtually silent through towns, and at night, but means I can make it noisy on the motorway/dual carriageways (non-residential). ____________________ - Yeah, you know the type, loud as a motorbike, wouldn't bust a grape in a fruit fight.

Hi
Having a bike set up for a full system and then leaving the baffles in does screw up the mixture a bit. Bandit is a bit like this with the road baffle in place being a bit flat at low revs especially when cold. Something I put up with for having a bit less noise. Also the reason it is a bit rich at low revs (I lifted the needles half a notch which seemed to help the running the baffle in place).
However it seems to make very little difference to full power. The Bandit running with the road baffle was 7hp down at peak compared to running without the baffle. 5%.
All the best
