ok the story starts with me going to play squash for my club team, so park the bike out side on a hill so leave it in first so it dont rool back. so play my match and yes i win. by now its dark and cold so get all my chains off as quick as posible and try start bike. nothing at all so i thought "KILLSwitch" nope its on so check HT leads, fuses, nothing by this time an getting worrid. so i thorght i will try bump it..(bump not bum Wink ) and i go to roll it back i remember i left in in gear, so i flick it up to "Nutr" and try start it it starts Embarassed ...*riichy terns bike off real quick then shouts dam its the CDI must have over hybornatyerd (trying to make it look like it was somthing only a hardcore biker would know)*

anyway is this a standard thing on all bikes Question

All (probably most) bikes won't start in first with the sidestand down. It'll start in first, with the stand up, and clutch in. Or in neutral.

I believe Ducatti's won't start at all with the stand down, neutral or not. Might be wrong on that one though......

yup^^ Theres a cut off switch on the sidestand to stop you starting it in gear, you can start it in gear if you have the clutch in and the stand up, on most bikes anway, done it a few time's, no biggie.

I made the same mistake once... except it was when I was on my test! Embarassed Felt like a right nob!! The instructor told me to get on the bike, start the engine & wait for him to prepare himself to set off. So I got on, started it up and that & waited. Then he pulled out & told me to go when I was ready. I put it into 1st gear then the engine cut out... "shit!" I thought, so I popped it back into neutral, started her up agin, then put it into 1st & it cut out again... "bollocks!" I thought. I checked the killswitch but it wasn't that, I looked everywhere but couldn't fathom it out so I looked at the instructor with a puzzled look on my face Neutral & shrugged my shoulders... then, "Bastard", I thought, "I've left the stinking stand down!", and just before I could correct it the instructor said it over the radio in a patronising manner. I felt like a proper twat, but he didn't fail me at least! Couldn't believe it happened though, it would normally never ever be something I'd forget! Rolling Eyes Doh!

Anyway, that aside, on my GSXR it will only let you start it if you have the clutch in, wether it be in gear, neutral, sidestand or not, which I found a bit wierd at first. Suppose its safer that way maybe. Anyway, this post has become a bit too long & boring now, sorry. Wink
