ahh that makes more sense.. are they those posh pit gloves things?
Best gloves for general maintainance are disposable latex gloves, will stop you getting scratches (two layers even better) stop oil/paint/brakefuid anything really.. then they go in the bin.
After a first soaking with oil or brake fluid most glove will have to go in the bin... ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

I've got some kangaroo leather Frank thomas gloves and mine got pretty rank whilst learning to ride. I spent about 3 months in the height of summer sweating like a pig in all my gear whilst learning and my hands reeked for ages after taking them off.
What worked?
Chucked them in the washing machine on a 40 degree wash, then left them in the airing cupboard for a day or so.
Never smelled sweeter...
Just wash 'em.

Waterproof gloves have a plastic membrane in them. Unless they are the breathable type, the heat and moisture from your hands will create the perfect environment for bacteria to breed.
The bacteria is what causes smells. There is always bacteria on your hands, and now they've been worn, there will be bacteria in the gloves too.
Kill the bacteria in the gloves by soaking in milton fluid, and make a habit of washing your hands before wearing your gloves.
Alternatively buy breathable gloves

Sounds soft but bung them in a plastic bag, then put them in the freezer for about 24 hours. That will kill all the bacteria that causes the smell without destroying the waterproofness.
Thought it wouldn't work when i was told it but it did. ____________________ Andy Sez....

Well fuck me, what a brilliant idea!
Much less hassle than milton. Have a cigar. |
