33 BHP R6??

I have heard so much about this topic and wanted some advice from people i presume to know more about it than me, if i was to get an old R6 (on carbs) and have it restricted to 33BHP, and properly set up on a dyno, would it be a bitch to ride and run like a bagowank?

It would run fine, like any bike thats had an elastic band put round it's bollocks. Would obviously be restrictive but the r6 is what, 185kgs wet? Probably a little quicker than my old er5 at 33bhp, as it weighed a little more.

I personally wouldn't like to ride a bike thats supposed to go fast, slowly. Razz

Restriction washers are a bad design they fall out so easily. Get them fitted and just let them 'fall out'.

My mate had one @ 33bhp and said it was fine acceleration wise up to about 80mph, then it kinda got a bit tedious waiting for it to crawl it's way up to a ton.

Best bet if you're actually gonna keep them in is to get something smaller so you don't get nailed on insurance. Then when you're gonna ride a full power bike get one.

I either want to get a big bike and restrict it or get a 4 stroke motocross type bike (Road legal) which is 33nhp or slightly less, anyone got any suggestons?

Best off forgetting a restricted "big" bike and get some no claims on a smaller one as you're not going to gain anything with a restricted R6. Plus you do realise that the insurance will be horrendous, they charge the same if it's full power or restricted, doesn't matter which, might as well save the difference in premium for a couple of years, the depreciation of the bike and gain some no claims.

Yeah that was my thought aswell, i think i will stick to smaller bikes, i already have 2 years no claims, at what age does insurance start becoming reasonable?

It all depends where you live, expereience, bike etc. A lot of people say 25. A lot say 30. However, what is "reasonable" insurance to you?

I'm on a 33bhp license with a hornet and sv, the hornet was around £600 tpft to insure. After this year, at 21 with 1NCB I am getting quotes for rsv mille's at less than £700 tpo. Thats 'reasonable' to me.
