got my forks back from the garage today and fitted the front end back on the bike this evening, but to get the wheel back on the forks i had to jack the bike higher than i did when i took the wheel off. the forks are at the right position at the top of the yokes but seem to be hanging down more than they where when unloaded. is this the result of having the correct amount of oil in now? reassembled incorrectly? or a simple case of the trolley jack the bike is resting on slowly colapsing under the wieght of the bike?
anyway as a result i recon the bike is going to feel a hell of a lot different when i come to ride it, if its due to more fork oil, so just wondering if anyone can give me any tips for setting up the front end.
Cheers
WN

Just keep the forks on there manufactors settings as qoute in the workshop manual if you,ve got one (l think they work them out for a 75kg person), from my experances with adjustable forks its best not to mess with them.

My thunderace felt alot higher with fresh fork oil, l did have ago with ajusting the spring preload and both damping ajusters on each fork but never could get the bike to feel right so went back to the manufactors settings.

Were the forks just serviced and put back to standard, or did you have a revalve job, new springs etc?

I'd stick the bike back together and see how it sits then set the sag up before riding it and making any more changes.

Check your calipers too, normally when a fork seal leaks badly, the fluid runs down the fork to the caliper and gets on the brake pads. Quick squirt with a degreaser will sort it.

ok had a look in the service manual to get the standard settings and should be fine with that but there is a little question i need answering as this is my first time of adjusting suspension so its a stupid one! Laughing the manual says

manual wrote:
7th click from the first click of the fully clockwise postition

so in the case of the rebound damper (flat head screw at top of fork leg) i need to turn the screw clockwise till it won't go any further, then turn it anti-clockwise for a total of 8 clicks?
Cheers
