I've just had a new chain and sprocket set put on my SV650s. However, the chain adjusters with the new chain on are set 3 marks in from the longest setting, so as soon as I have adjusted the chain to take out the slack a few times the adjusters will be at the end of their limit. Surely a new chain should be right at the shorter end of the adjustment limit? The mechanic had a bit of bother trying to get the parts as his supplier was out of stock and he wasn't there when I picked the bike up to ask him. I did ask if they could get me the set for the naked (16/45 rather than the original 16/44 I think) has he got the wrong sized chain or something, and if so would he just be able to take a link out?

the mechanic obviously doesnt know how to fit a chain, the adjusters should of been placed at the shortest setting when considering how many links to remove, ie when i fitted my chain yesterday it was 25mm freeplay at the shortest setting (25mm is aprilias recommended slack)

Hi Liono,

Where did you get it done mate?

Did you mean he couldn't get the correct sprocket size so fitted a tooth less?

Rick

I got it done at TCN, they're usually very good there. I rang him today and I'm going to pop in for him to have a look tomorrow. He fitted the normal sized front sprocket and went up a tooth on the back, which is what I asked him to do. He might have just ordered an overly long chain, but I would have though that he'd take the links out to make it fit properly.

Hi

Fair chance that taking a link out will pull the wheel forward so far that it will be outside the range of the adjusters. Down side of playing with sprocket sizes.

All the best
