Bike vs rider

50 mph lowside due to attempted cornering on gravel Sad

Hein Gericke textile jacket-slight tear in elbow
Hein Gericke leather trousers- slightly scuffed still in use
Hein Gericke Evo boots- scuffing to plastic protection, still in use
Hein Gericke Evo gloves-unmarked

Injuries-slight graze to knee caused by armour.

Yes I did buy all my gear in one go at Hein Gericke when I got back into biking and yes I got a really good discount Smile

You should be noticing a pattern by now Confused

Those peeps who crash in t-shirts and jeans get hurt.

Generally those who crash in 'proper' bike gear may still get hurt but get hurt less or not at all....hopefully fot the jeans brigade , it makes you think!

I learnt my lesson, always ride in decent kit on the road, and plenty of armour off-road!

1977 KE175B Vs Missed gear.

Incident

Taking it in turns riding around a field with my cousin and a mate on my KE175. Was coming down a hill. Decided to try out some engine braking.

I went to shift from 3rd to 2nd, hit neutral so I kicked it down again and it went into 1st, bike revs up, I shit myself thinking the engine is gonna blow and go hard on the front brake.

Not quite a stoppie, but I did a cool somersault over the handle bars.

Clothing

Random tee shirt (£5)
Jeans (£15)
Globes (£30)

Conclusion

I got away fine, actually it was quite fun. Took about 8 kicks to get the bike started again, but she fired up in the end Very Happy. I've learnt my lesson and can now use engine braking properly lol.

Only downside was that I lost my shoe going over the handlebars and when I got up, I stood in some shit Mad . I had to borrow my mates sock, he never got it back Razz.

Crash

ZX7R vs wet and slippery white lines

I had just overtaking a car and was doing approximatly 80/90 mph when I noticed that my friend in front was indicating to go into the next junction. Instead of overshooting the junction I attempted to slow enough to make the turn, which required me to brake as I crossed back to the correct side of the road. It was wet and slippery and the front tucked.

100 metre slide down the road, separated from bike.

Clothing

Belstaff leather jeans (unarmoured) - scuffed on the hip, and very thin at the point that took most of the abrasion, deep bruise to hip.

Wolf Nimbus Leather (armoured) - scuffs on the forearm, which seems to have just taken off the silver colouring on the lettering, broken zip toggle.

RST GP2 leather gloves - hole in abrasion area on palm, small bruise on palm, slight numbness from impact.

Prexport race boots - vents on side completely filed down, split gel pad on side of ankle.

I still wear my jacket and my gloves, as both are completley servicable, but I have since invested in newer gear which is fully armoured, but this is more down to me doing trackdays regularly than anything else

ZX6R V Red Mist

Location: Snetterton

Crash: Highside

At the end of revitt straight in my first race...got overtaken by about 10 bikes and got really mad....twisted the gas way too early and next thing I new I was flying through the air at a weird angle..

Damage: Completely tore all ligaments in my right shoulder off the bike for bloody months

Advice: Don't ever race a zx6r with a knackered rear shhock and a head full of ideas that you are the as yet undiscovered greatest motorcycle racer to ever walk the earth! Those thoughts will just kick your arse the moment they get the chance!

agree, in the case of hitting something at high speed all leathers will do is act as a body bag, but they are the best protection you can have bar an invisible forcefield! Laughing

Excellent thread guys, good arguements for wearing your gear.

My storys crap but....

CBR6 V The dreaded white lines

Folded the front end turning into a junction I didnt know too well. Was about 15mph, hit the deck and slid the width of the junction before mounting the curb.

gear

Richa one piece with CE armour - slight scuff on richa logo
Sidi corsa vertigos - No damage other than toe sliders
Richa air force gloves - tore palm but no hand damage
AGV V flyer - no damage no impact

Me
Stiff as a bastard for two days, asthma attack from pushing a CBR6 with a cracked generator cover pissing oil out everywhere up a big eff off hill!

Crash
Jawa 350 vs Audi 80. No-mirrors u-turn.

Bike went into drivers door at about 20mph. Rider hit top of door/roof with shoulder, splatted against side of car by bike then landed back on road.

Clothing worn
First generation 'scott' cordura jacket with integral armour (a very new thing to have at the time).

Shoei TXR lid.

Random gloves, combat trousers and army boots.

No damage to clothing or rider.

Car written off due to major structural damage (creased b-pillar)

Crash 2

GPZ500s vs road.

A 70mph highside on the A6 approaching Shap summit. Rider slid about 30yds on backside then ragdolled to a halt.

Clothing Worn

Bellstaff fabric jacket with removable back, elbow and shoulder armour. Moderate scuffing to back of jacket. Small tear on elbow over armour. (causing a small friction burn on the riders elbow).

Bellstaff leather jeans (zipped to jacket). Some light scuffing on the arse. Still in use.

Akito swift gloves, stitching abraded on palm, small hole in little finger. Not their first crash so in the bin, done their job twice.

British army assult boots. No damage.

Shoei TXR. Some scuffing to paint on back of helmet. Demoted to spare as after five years it really was starting to stink anyway.

Rider walked away, bike took some heavy scuffing and lost a handlebar (snapped off). Back on the road for £45 and some plastic filler.
