Got my bike at last, well nearly

At last, i'm getting my bike tomorow an nice little Rs125, i'm just wondering if anyone could give me a quick run through of pulling away on the bike with the biting point of the clutch ( how to find biting point is a start).

Didnt you learn about all that on your CBT ?

The biting point is around half to three quatres lenght of pulling the clutch ( located on your left hand ) Its a sudden jerkyness, at that point use the throttle to move away!

Takes a couple of goes to get used to but after that its a peice of piss

Rs is two stroke isnt it With a two stroke you need quite a lot of throttle, well more than a 4 stroke! Ase a lot of throttle and less likley to stall

I take off usualy around 4000-5000 RPM easily, but that a NSR so RS could be diffrent.

I'm only 17 tomorow so when i took my cbt i was only able to on a twist and go.

I was just wondering on the gears so i can pull off without stalling for the first 3 hours.
I'll put some pics of it on although i think we have seen RS125's over and over again on members bikes section so im not sure yet.

Same situation as me then! I was twist and go from 16 and never took lessons with manual. Such a diffrence AzA total class is all i can say for manual. ive been riding manual since July now and ready to go for my 33bhp licence!

strictly speaking if your cbt was for twist and go, you should do another where you learn to use gears

the basics are that pressing down on gear lever gets you down a gear and knocking the lever up gets you up a gear. the wierd bit is neutral

gear order is 1 N 2 3 4 5 6

but you only get neutral if you lightly push up when stationary and you might need to roll bike forward a bti to find it

with the rs125, it helps to give the bike a bit of revs (4-6k) when pulling away and take off the clutch gradually so you travel at least a road width before you have let the clutch fully out

i would suggest practising on a car park before taking it far on the road

ride slow at first until you get a feel for the bike and remember that if you want to stop while turning use the back not front brake

for slowing down a bit while turning, you can use the front, but if you want to stop while turning, using the front brake will make it lock up and skid away from you and the bike will fall

because your cbt is suppoed to give you the training you need to be safe on the road

if you ride a geared bike and dont know how to work the gears, you arent very safe until you have learnt how to use them

Tehe! I picked up my new bike yesterday afternoon, only the third time I have ridden! But I have to say I felt and did ok. Got my theory and hazard perception today, nice and early at 9:30, been revising over the net and reading loads so fingers crossed be ok.
Maybe if I am feeling brave later and weather holds out as been crap lately I will take the new baby out for a spin just to build my confidence up etc, not been out alone yet

I guess you are right in some ways, but I did CBT on a twist and go and then taught myself gears afterward on a large industrial estate(nice large area, and very quiet), the gears clicked and now I commute to work, and generally enjoy my riding.

I do agree however that you should not pass a CBT on a Twist N Go, and then go straight onto the busy roads, on a geared bike.

However the CBT is valid for 2 years whether you do it or a Automatic or Manual, if you did it on a Automatic for instance, would it even be possible to do the CBT all over again with a geared bike?, as you would just be receiving the same certificate again, wouldn’t the training school just suggest you do a lesson or 2 on a geared bike, rather then taking the CBT again?.

Thanks for the help all, after reading that i gave it ago and my pulling away is getting smother, ill do it more tomorrow and start with going up and down gears, luckily i live an a pretty much deserted area.

on a friends rs you have to set off over 3000 revs for a decent set off, try that it may help
