I have a Honda NSR which has all of a sudden seemed to have no power and has stopped working. About 2-3 days ago i went to start it up, but all i heard as i pushed the start button was a click, after that my dash board, head lights, indicators stopped working and does not even start.
I think its a problem with the voltage regulator due to the battery being fully charged but i would like someone with a bit more knowledge to confirm this before i replace the voltage regulator.
thanks for the help

so when you turn the ignition to on there is no power at all?
have you checked all the fuses?
even the 30 amp one that is close to the battery?

have you done any electrical work on it recently, like installed new lights or something that could have shorted out?

Unless I'm up a gum tree, your voltage reg won't stop it starting if the battery is good, it'll just stop the battery getting re-charged from the bike itself.

So if you're sure that the battery is ok then your non-starting problems stem from somewhere else.

Do you have no lights at all? No sound at all from the solenoid when you press the starter button?

Have you got 12.5 volts across the battery terminals? Keep the voltmemter on the terminals and switch on and re-press the starter button - any change in reading?

If you're getting nothing electrical at all, and the battery and fuses are ok, then it sounds like the ignition switch isn't working or the supply to it is interrupted.

no, no new work done to it at all. what are the tell tell signs of a faulty voltage regulator/rectifier?? also i have noticed that underneath the fuel tank there are a couple of diodes coming from the wiring loom, and when i wiggled these the bike had power briefly, but havnt had any luck since then. thanks

The rectifier/regulator is basically to charge the battery and keep the power supplied by the alternator constant. If your battery is charged it should start even if these are dead.

That sounds interesting. I havnt any experience with NSRs but I would be surprised if there is supposed to be diodes (or any electrical bits for that matter) just sticking out the loom. If you had power for a second when you wigled them then it points to that. Sounds bodged to me though.
