Hello all. I have my bike test next wednesday (Nov 9th). I'm expecting it to rain probably pretty heavy that day. If it does rain i will obviously have to go slower than stated speed limits. My question is, how much slower should i go? For example. If i'm in a 30mph zone, what speed would the examiner expect me to be doing and so on in a 40mph and 50 mph zone. Cheers

you ride as fast as it is SAFE TO DO SO, whilst obiding by the limits.
During your lessons your instructor should have told you how to asess this.
There is no set speed for riding in the rain in a 40, depends on how heavy the rain is, type of road, amount of traffic, hazards ahead etc etc etc

I guess what i'm really asking is, how slow would be to slow? My idea of a safe speed for the conditions may not be the examiners idea of a safe speed for the conditions.

I'd say (From a n00bs point of view) that if it's pissing down.. Ride as fast as you feel comfortable.

I would say it's a subjective point of view and you'll gain the appreciation of the instructor by realising that you can ride below the speed limit and still be going to fast.

Ride as fast as you feel comfortable, but I would think anything under 30mph in a 40 is taking the piss.

Regards,

Toby

In the rain you don't have to ride any slower than you would (legally) in the dry. The only rule to really think about is the fact that you have to allow double the stopping distance.

If you are in a 30/40/50 mph limit and the road is clear just ride at the legal speed. You don't want to appear to be to nervous you should just appear cautious. Leave plenty of stopping room in front of you and be ready to react to a situation quicker than you normally would in the dry.

I'm not bothered about riding in the rain, i've been riding through all sorts of whether getting to work and back for the past 3 years. I just thought that maybe the examiner would expect me to slow down a little if it was pissing down.

don't worry about it mate i did mind when it was pissin it down and passed. just ride like you would if you were out on you own when raining, i.e allow more room for breaking. be smooth on the clutch so no to spin the back out.

make sure to sort your visor out so you don't have to mess with it when out maybe buy some anti fog stuff or just lift it a tiny bit.

Not at the legal speed limits!

He/She will expect you to make satisfactory progress. So just ride how you feel is sensible. If it's chucking it down really hard and you can't see clearly in front of you then of course you should ride within the limits of visibilty. But in normal rain just ride cautiously!

You keep to the normal speed limit and just increse your following distance and braking distance!! Easy!! Thumbs Up

It snowed the first time I did my CBT and it shat down with rain during my DAS!! Including the 3 days training.
