This is going to be a bit of a rant! Mad

I drive my bike to my place of work every day. Its a big Suzuki GSXR 600 and its pretty hard to miss being bright yellow and all. BUT, I'm sitting here at work at the moment, and I've just had someone come over and tell me "there's been an accident with your bike"...

This guy has just reversed out of a parking bay next to where my bike was parked (whilst talking on his phone I must add), and clipped the back of my bike, knocking it off the stand, crashing it onto the ground on the left hand side.

He's scratched the rear left panel (where it says '600'), the wing mirror, the side fairing & crash bobbins, and the engine casing.

I really can't believe it! It was an absolutely spotless bike & now its ruined! Sad

To make matters worse, the guy who done it is the facilities manager here, and he's in charge of... guess what.. safety in the car park (amongst other things). Rolling Eyes

What an idiot. Please someone tell me, the bike won't be getting written off (what with the engine case being sratched to shit and all), will it??

I seriously don't have ANY luck with bikes, but theres NO WAY I'm giving it up! Confused

People can be blind.

Suspect a new crank end cover will be £60~£100.

At least it fell on the left. If it fell on the right then there is more chance of the exhaust bending into the swinging arm and damaging it (and the bill for a new swinging arm really would sting).

All the best

Well, I just logged out of my PC etc at work to go out & ride her home... but, she won't start, and the gear lever has snapped off so I wouldn't have been able to ride it anyway! Bah! Rolling Eyes So here I am again, back at the office! A bit sooner than I would have liked I must say. I've just had to arrange for breakdown recovery to come & pick it up. I had booked a table in a resturaunt tonight with my gf which I've just had to cancel too because of this. Evil or Very Mad

Quote:

Maybe not, I just thought that since the side of the engine was all scratched that maybe it was gonna be too costly to repair? Plus I've only been riding it for just under a month, after waiting nearly a year with it waiting in my shed for me. Thats why I'm a tad annoyed. Thumbs Down

I've got his insurance details though, so I'll be putting a claim in against him. The only thing that worries me is that there is bike bays in the car park, but they're around the other side of the building (its a big building!) and it would take too long to walk to & from there everyday. Thats why I park in a regular car bay. I just hope he doesn't try & use that against me. Neutral

Anyway, thanks for your replies, I'll keep you posted! (no pun intended).

They were just the standard ones that came with the bike. They're all mashed in, so yeah, they didn't really do their job very well!

Oh well, thats one thing I suppose. That reminds me though, do you think I should take the race can off? Just in case the insurance company wants to check it over? I still have the original can so it shouldn't be too much of a problem I don't think.

Hi

Cannot see how a race can would be relevant to this claim so you should be fine.

By the way, your recovery company might well charge you for taking the bike home after an "accident".

Get a quote done for the repairs. The guy might prefer to pay rather than claim.

All the best

I've been and inspected it today in daylight & it doesn't look as bad as I thought. The main fairing doesn't look as though it is damaged after all, but the tail end is & the fixing brackets have snapped so its loose. The side of the engine looks like its got a big dent in it though & its scraped.

I still can't get it to start & I've looked around on the net & found out it is probably a 'tip over switch'. But I can't seem to find it on the bike & can't be arsed to take the tank off etc so I'm just gonna leave it until I get a damage estimate etc though instead of messing about & making it worse! Embarassed I took the race can off though anyway just in case.

Here's some photos for your viewing pleasure (it looks worse in 'real life')...

Whats even funnier is that this is the second time this has happened to me in the work car park. It was also a Suzuki that it happened to last time as well (RG 125), and that WAS a write off! Shocked

I want a decal that says

Quote:
DONT REVERSE OVER ME DUMBASS or OH SHIT NOT AGAIN

I love GSXR's though and it shouldnt be a write off, personally for that damage i wouldnt bother with insurance as it cant cost that much to repair about £150 if you hunt on ebay for new parts like the cover etc perhaps a carbon fibre one.

All i can say is fantastic bike and hope you get it back to the way it was.

Also the suzukis that have been reversed over have all been yellow Thinking The most obvious colour in the world and they still reversed over mine and yours Neutral

If someone tried to write that off mate id laugh at them!

You "How much to get it fixed mate"
Mechanic "well it aint worth your while, the engine casing being scratched would mean it might blow up if you put it in gear, the plastic scratching cant be fixed you have to replace all of it on both sides then respray it just incase, then your taking the chance of the bike rejecting the plastics and blowing up....."
you "my god!"
mechanic "will offer you 50 quid for it but thats just as a paperweight mind you..."

Very Happy

Dude I dont think it looks that bad, but can still understand you bein right pissed off in anycase.
Im thinking that if he is covering it with his insurance and you cant be bothered to find out why it wont start, the simply add that to the bill and ensure they bring it back it perfect working order.
Fixing cosmetics is one thing, but Id be more focused on any mechanical issues resulting from the impact.
Either way dont take it back until its in exactly the condition it was prior to being hit.

As for the can I know here in Aus insurance companies have a clause saying something about using discretion when paying a claim if there are any mods on vehicles.
Hope they dont knock you back on something as pissy as that.

Was the guys sorry for it or didnt even give a shit ??

He didn't seem too remorseful I must say. In fact, every 'accident' I've had with bikes (3 up to now, none of which my fault), the person who was in the wrong has NEVER been very apologetic. They always try & figure out a way of partley blaming you & don't want to admit liability. Bastards.

Anyway, I've just got an estimate done today of the damage & its a whopping £1319.75! Luckily though there wasn't any engine damage so it'll not be written off. Thumbs Up They've done a temporary fix for me too with the gear lever & got it starting again, which is nice. Incidently it wasn't actually a 'tip over' switch that was preventing the bike from starting, it was something to do with the clutch that was knackered in the fall. Anyway, they've fixed that too & it only cost £75! That was to pick the bike up from my house, check it over & assess the damage, fix it so its rideable, and drop it off back at home. I thought that was rather cheap, and I'm quite chuffed that I'll be back on the road again tomorrow! Mr. Green

...now lets hope for a speedy insurance claim (and maybe a frosty day in hell?). Neutral
