are these likely to be an improvment on original or bodged problem-causing crap ?

its not worth £225 in my opinion as all it is is some software. IT looks like it has a limited number of bikes that it can be used on. You would still need to get the bike dynoed and get someone who know how to set ecu's up to get more performance without breaking anything.

I wouldnt be buying one. I want to know if a bike with one already fitted is better or worse than a bike without one.

I guess it depends how well it was set up when installed but I dont know anything else.

Tune boy is software, that plugs into the orignal ECU. It's not a replacement chip or anything, it just changes the settings of your orignal ECU. Smile

ahh thnx
is it possible to fuck up the original ecu if you dont know what you are doing, or is it easy to just restore to latest triumph remap ? (for a tt600)

edit
Ive used the search function now and it seems that although all changes to the ecu are reversible, there is plenty of possibilities to reduce performance if the wrong remap is used

I guess I would only find out if it had a bad remap if i got it dyno'ed

As tuneboy can be used to remove any rev limiter set by the ECU (how alot of tt600s have quite high peak power) I'd say it is *very* easy to not only set the bike up wrong, but well and truely fuck it up. Unlike a power commander, it's not as simple as "unplug it and everything's disappeared" so it's also a bitch for insurance purposes.

ahh thnx again
so if you remove rev limits you could fuck up the bike in a permanent rather than reversible way
hmm

I'm no expert, but I don't think rev limiters are there to try limit power. Thinking

Hi

As there is nothing on the bike to show a Tuneboy has ever been used it is even harder for an insurance bod to spot than a Power Commander.

The Tuneboy allows you to change the actual maps used in the ECU (exactly the same as the kit the Triumph dealers use to update the maps). Most people using Tuneboy software will be uploading standard Triumph maps.

Power Commanders are just bodge devices that screw around with the signals to the ECU to try and provide a limited ability to retune the ECU.

All the best

Keith

Is there no way that the insurance people would plug into the ECU and give it a quick check? Would have thought that'd be an obvious thing to do (though I admit I know very little about insurance engineering)

Not really and the maps are regularly updated by Triumph, and they would also need to show that it was relevant to the accident.

Couple of holes drilled to mount a power commander would be far more obvious, and the chances are that if they needed to check it over that much the bike would be impounded by the police so you would not be in a position to remove the power commander.

All the best

Keith

so does this mean I could use the tuneboy to try the detuned map that is used in the speed four ?

or is the speed four detuned in othere ways than just the mapping ?

Hi

You could probably try it (or even make up your own map), but the speed 4 has different cams as well (different timing and lift) and probably a different exhaust.

All the best

My advice is don't fcuk about with maps unless you know what you are doing.

If the bike has been set up on a Dyno for a race can then the tuneboy emulates a PCIII with a Dynojet dyno, and as such 'sets itself up'.

Setting the bike up on the dyno will not change the rev limit, and you can only change the rev limit up to a maximum anyway.

The reason you can change the rev limit with the tuneboy is because the Sprint RS (955i version) has a lower rev limit than the Daytona 955i which has exactly the same engine.

In short, its not something you need to 'worry about' in the same way as you have been worrying about what bike to get. Its only the same as fitting a power commander, in fact its better because a power commander takes a 32 bit sample of a 64 bit parameter in the map. The Tuneboy changes all 64 bits, meaning you have a 'true map' rather than an approximation.

Just ride the fecker, if the engine is damaged you'd know about it (speaking from grim experience).

Karma

PS on a side note, I had Tuneboy for my 955i and the documentation does state when and where you can change the rev limiter, IE in big letters "DON'T DO THIS ON A TT600"...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
