New Leathers Time - need oppinions

I'm gonna go out tomorrow and look some nice new shiny leathers. Power ranger stylee leathers just arent for me - especially right now while I have a cruiser style bike... Anyway, it's best if I digress and get to the point eh?

I was wondering what decent jackets/trousers there are about in plain old-school leather, none of this bright "look at me I'm rossi" style stuff. I'm looking to spend up to about £250, so if anyone has any reccomendations or "oh my bloody god stay the hell away from X!" comments, it's all appreciated

if it were me id buy some second hand leathers that originally cost £1000 off ebay

at the bike show i got to wear the difference between hein gerick and alpinestars

a new £250 set of leathers is ok but a £800 set of leathers is noticeably better and fits like a glove.

just make sure you get the right size. or if the ebay seller lives near you, pop round and try it on

i recently tried on some fairly new size 54 dianese leathers and they were a tighter fit than 52 of hein gerick or alpine stars

the alpine stars leathers I tried were the best of 1 piece and two piece, as they had one zip up the front like 1 pieces leathers, but a zip all round the waist to detach if off the bike to sit normally and not like a hunch back

I've been keeping an eye out for "expensive second hand leathers" for ages, and whenever I've gone to view them they either havnt fit quite right, arent what I'm looking for, or simply sold by the time I've phoned the guy up about it. Or in bad condition.

With new gear I can ensure it fits perfectly, ya see. And I dont have to wait a few more months

Cheers for that thought Nath! I hear the local bike shop has a bit of a sale on.. might amble down there tomorrow.

The only gripe I have against grey is with a black bike, grey leathers and silver and black helmet, I might not be too visible

Are you planning on owning the bike longer than the leathers, or the other way around.

Brightly coloured ones make you look like a twat at the best of times, even moreso when you find yourself with a bike that they clash with.

Neutral tones are the smart choice if you're making an investment.

The way I see it - black goes with everything. So when I get rid of my nice little 125 and get a proper bike, it'll still go with a bright lime green zxr4 or whatever I end up getting.

It's definately an investment style purchase.

I bought a two piece Dainese black/grey (silver?) suit when i had my red and white Yamaha. Since bought a black gixer. Get black, you know it makes sense. And you can always wear a flourecent bib

The only leathers I tried are Alpinestars. You can get the track pants for 300$ and a stage leather jacket for another 300. You can get them in plain black if you like. I'm very happy with them.

theres 2 people that just went abroad in it on a bike with sidecar, the bike looked crap but the leathers looked real nice, id say because its a tv prog though that there probably worth more than £250

Cost doesn't necessarily make a decent set of leathers. The most important thing is to get something that fits nice and tight, is comfortable and works on the bike. Leather gives with time and break in, especially a one piece and is tends to get stretched more from the riding position. You want something that isn't going to move around in an accident and if it's armoured it needs to keep the armour in place.

Best bet is to draw yourself up a list of possibilities and go and try it on.

Has anyone got any opinions on Richa leathers?

In the local bike shop they have loads of Richa stuff and a set of leathers costs £380. I can get a set of Hein Gericke for the same price but don't know which are better.
