Haha!
My D reg GS125 went over 16000 miles today and its started making the horiblest noise! It started happening at exactly 16k (its got 16002 on the clock now)
I think the tappets are unscrewing them selves, you guessed it, the bike taps! Really loud infact. started quiet and i thought i was imagining it but by the time i got home its actually louder than the engine
DAMN DAYLIGHT SAVING!!! Its not saving me any daylight...... looks like im getting the tram into work in the morning cause i cant see the engine never mind the rocker inspection covers
I hope its only a tappet that unscrewing itself, cause i cant be arsed to do any more to it and my NS125R failed its mot AGAIN so i cant ride that. The bike doesnt ride any differently, its just loud! |

Typing error? I can't see the connection between the words warranty and 16000 miles
Are you saying the tappets have never been adjusted? |

Either your tappets are loose or your camchain (tensioner) is on the way out. Those are the two most likely, I would be surprised if it were the camchain. Also check for worn sprockets and be aware of piston slap. The latter isn't likely for another 10-20k really though, unless you seize it pretty badly.
Assuming that they are screw and locknut types, they aren't difficult to adjust. If you reckon it's unscrewing itself, I'd get onto it sharpish before the valve chews through the cylinder head. Lose it altogether and it could be bad news, to put it politely.
Is there any power loss associated with said tapping? ____________________ I must not be a troll...
