Found this on vehicle wiring products site (just down he road)..
Is it worth looking for some cibie lights are they going to be lhat much better?

I'm still not completely understanding some things about lights...

The lights i've got have been attached for two decades, from what ive been told glass (not as quickly as plastic) goes off? and don't let the same ammount of light through as when they are first put on..

So would fitting the light above give out light more like.. i dunno... every newer bike i've ridden has WAY better lights..

Anyone done similar and swapped old lights for new and noticed an improvement?

Do you have a round or a square head light chris?
If its round go to loom's and look for a VW golf, they have "cibie" head lights as standard and are about the right size for the standard round jap head light

The glass does become more opaque, and probably more seriously the reflector becomes tarnished. So they do become less efficient with time.

Any standard 7 inch headlight unit should fit. Your local electrical motor factors should have them in stock, pay about 15-20 pounds for a good quality one. If you fancy spending a bit more for the latest technology, look on the interweb for "raybrig" - these are the same form factor but are a projector design (like most new headlights, with a non-patterned front glass). Many people seem to like them a lot.

Golf eh? woth a go, i'll check at looms Thumbs Up

Its a round light, i'm guessing its a find anywhere 7" type light as its part of the fugly faring and it would make sense for them to use an off the shelf item..

If not i'll have a look at the raybrig or cibie lights, seen a few "diamond cut" halogen conversion lamps (afaik many american cars/bikes have been useing sealed beam lights till recently) these look like modern car lamps i've seen before..

Its getting more wintery now and i'm sruggleing with the light allready so want to sort it sooner rather than later Sad

(found an engine yet odie? or shouldn't ask? been looking out for one but no luck as of yet :/ )

LIGHTS

Of the 20% failure rate on bike MOT tests, over half are for defective lights. Quite amazing since these are amongst the simplest items to check yourself before going to the test.

The requirements are simple, and quite straightforward to replace or adjust, without the need of a mechanic.

HEADLIGHTS & TAIL LIGHTS must be free of chips or cracks; the headlight must also work on main and dip beam, the main beam must shine directly ahead and the dip slightly lower and to the left.

INDICATOR LIGHTS must all flash at a steady rate and the warning lights function properly.

If a HAZARD WARNING SYSTEM is fitted, all 4 indicators must flash at a steady uniform rate.

Bikes must have a red REFLECTOR on the rear of the machine, either bolted on separately or as part of the tail light lens.

Ack, ok another dim question...

It dosn't mention it but do i need to have a park light? the bike HAS one but chances are i might get a replacement without and use the spare switch for auxiluary lighting (park = main/dipped, on = main/dipped+driveinglights)

Freakishly VWP still sell the same lamp i have allready AND even the attaching hardware.. bizzare..
