i have been going to the nec bike show for 5 years and have noticed it has gradualy got worse over the years, it dosent seem half as big anymore. also this year there was no display team like ther have been in years gone by.....the highlight of the show was arsing about on those mini motos tho they were fun.....just wondered if i was the only 1 dissapointed

I've never been before, but I was expecting more.

Mini motos were good, check out the videos forum for my 'attempt'.

Nothing was amazingly cheap, no-one was doing anything amazing, the 06 bikes were nice, freebies weren't amazing, I've heard they've been better over the years.

And you had to be 21 for the supermotos!

I went to my first bike show this year.

I quite liked it. I rode a 1.3litre cruiser, a 450cc dirt bike in mud, and a 450cc supermoto, none of which I would get to try normally.

There were also some stuff on the indoor market stalls that I have seen on ebay but significantly cheaper.

So what did they have in the olden days ?

If display team is how-many-men-you-can-get-on-one-bike, type thing I dont think Id be hugely impressed.

some supermoto jumps and stuff would be good though.

Hi

I would say it has gone down hill.

Think after last years show they said they had done a survey and thought they needed to cut down the number of trade stands. They certainly seemed to have done that, but god knows who they asked for that silly idea. More traders seemed to result in cheaper prices.

They have had stunt shows in previous years. Personally I have never bother to go and watch (although you could see them in mid air).

This year Aprilia, Guzzi, Piaggio, Gilera, Benelli, Cagiva, MV, Sachs (and no doubt a few more) were all missing.

All the best

Keith

I would have liked an aprilia and MV stand!

I would have prefered more traders aswell.
Friend of mine wanted some textile throwover panniers, thought the NEC would be full of them.

We found literally 2 stalls selling them, and one was the oxford stand!

I've always found it a bit boring. There isn't a great deal of difference between going to the show and sitting on a few bikes and going to a dealer and sitting on a few bikes.

My first bike show and I loved it, I spent 6 hours walking round and I was sure I didn't see everything.

I thought it was top stuff!!

I went for the first time last year and was distinctly underwhelmed. If it's even less impressive this year, I don't think it would be worth it. It's not as though I'm even interested in new plastic missiles. Laughing

Still, if you haven't been before, it's something you have to do at least once.

Can't speak for 1982, but this year's was the worst I've been to.

Not enough trade stands (cost of hiring space an issue?) and manufacturers missing or vastly less machinery on display than in previous years (Ducati stand was tiny this year). Those trade stands that are there seem to stock a large amount of tat for the most part.

To be frank, I think you can get better deals on clothing and parts by shopping around the dealers and primarily via the internet these days.

I only bought chain and sprockets at this year's show 'cos I got a discount by buying from somebody who knew my mate who'd come along with me, wouldn't have put my hand in my pocket otherwise.

I won't be going next year.

I went to the London one a couple of years ago and didn't think much of it but I did have a fair trek to get there.

A few years ago the NEC was far better than London but after this year I'd say they're both pretty close, I think it depends which is your local as to which to go to. Was fairly dissapointed with the NEC really, I think the BMF is the better show as long as the weather is okay.

you didn't have to be any age for the mini motos i'm 18 and went on with no probs and with me was some kid who couldn't have been older than 15. It was my first year this year i thought it was pretty good the food and drink was pretty pricey but i expect that. I did wish there where a few more manufactures stands though

This year was definitely 'quieter' than last year, as in less of a buzz, less crowded and I do think less stands & stalls. I wonder if that's anything to do with being sponsored bt 'The Sun'?

However, as I went without any expectations and without a shopping list then it was a good day out. I can understand if you did want stuff and it wasn't there or in your opinion cheap enough then there's room for disappointment and frustration. I've been caught out like that before with the likes of PC fairs, expecting to see sellers who didn't turn up or have the stock and find I've had a wasted journey & entrance fee.

Found the NEC better for sitting on bikes as visiting various dealers is a hassle, plus you get sales people bothering you as well. Nice to do the rounds on the bikes in one hit plus see some others that I wouldn't normally take the time to try.

After the NEC last year I did try the Manchester show and found that very disappointing in comparison. The GMEX show was just like all the local dealers had got together, emptied their showrooms and 2nd hand stock and setup in the centre. Hardly inspiring.

Think I'll give the NEC another go next year as the likes of the BMF depends too much on getting the right weekend weatherwise for me.

Just my thoughts Smile

I don't think much of the 'Show Prices' slogan the stands seem to use. At one of the stands I enquired about tyres. On their website, which I had checked beforehand, they had the front at £65 and the rear at £92. They told me they were doing a special on a pair, for £170 Shocked They told me the rear alone was £120. Confused

So I told them that their prices were cheaper on the web, and they said they would match them. So where's the special show price they mentioned?

Show price = expensive price, we just hope you don't notice Thumbs Down

Ally Pally definately better! Been going to NEC since early eighties some years its good some years its crap Karma but hey you say it was crap this year, i got £150 jacket for £20! Very Happy I also got a hugger for my bike cheap, you just have to know when to go. The NEC is always better on a wednesday as its the quietest day and plan to get there for opening time, try to remember the Ally Pally is aimed at the older bike owner whereas the NEC is aimed at new bikes. also go with a mission in mind, you know what you want to buy do that first the rest is play time!
