As above im after a bike for the winter as i really want to keep my gsxr for the odd sunny days we have.

So basically maybe £1500 tops and has to be 33bhp legal. Really like the supermoto style of bike, anybody know of any for that price range??

Cheers in advance

Yeh just for use around town maybe a commuter style bike would be better then Confused but i really like the look of supermotos but if there no good then there no good i suppose. Dont get me wrong my gsxr600 is one hell of a bike, its just not suitable for around the town style of riding.

And yeh has to be 33bhp as I want cheap insurance and really cant be bothered with the whole restricter thing.

Get yourself a C90. Might cost you £200, nothing to insure and it wouldn't matter if you crashed it, lost it or had it stolen.

Just for town then anything cheap and cheerful. CB250, MZ, maybe an old Bros 400, that kind of thing.

Suzuki DR350? You should get a nice one for £1500 and they are a ballhair under 33bhp.

Trailie style (with some genuine offroad ability) nice and robust engine, very forgiving bikes. Being a Suzuki, you'll need to keep on top of the cleaning to avoid corrosion but they are good wee bikes.

Failing that, get yourself a nice cheap hack (no more than £500) for the winter then flog it in the spring and get something newer, bike prices take a hike up in the spring so you will probably get your money back on the hack.

The C90 isnt a bad idea for 100% inner city and in town commuting. It's about as cheap to run as 2wheels ever gets. If you want to occasionally go further out of town or use main roads then a proper motorbike like a CG125 or other manufacturers equivalent's are a good bet, for a cheap to run and reliable machine. I had a CG once, and i found it loads of fun to ride even after bigger bikes like the kmx and TZR250 id had previously.

Bigger winter hacks or commuter machines often start to cost alot of money to run and keep on the road, and i feel it's an often made mistake when people say "i need a 500cc+ bike for my winter bike", as then you could end up spending a small fortune on a old worn out bike that needs good brakes, suspension and tyres, especially if its something old and fast like a GPZ900R, FZ750, VFR, GSXR etc, as these sorts of bikes if brought really cheaply will never end up being cheap in the end.

It wont just be a winter hack. I really like the whole supermoto thing so i might just keep it as my primary bike but use the gixxer6 on those one off sunny days we get.

Route 2 is to sell my gixxer6 for about £4000 and put maybe 2-3 thousand more in and get a 2005/2006 litre bike next year in the summer time.

GS500E's can be had for less than £800, and sure they aren't 33bhp... but they make about 40, so probably down to about 33 these days.

but they are so cheap, you can't really say no.

i would say priority is either a good starter or a kickstart.

Its gotta get you around nicely. Thats it.

The smod seriously hates starting from cold, and drains currant like the ribena factory. So i leave the battery charging in my room at all times.
