What a depressing start to a Monday morning.
Do we all really want to hear about people being killed in motorcycling accidents?
The car forums I post on dont start up a new thread when some random person dies in a car crash, why do you feel the need to do it here?
I, probably like the majority of people who post on here, dont really want to be reminded about being killed while riding.
Fair enough when its someone you know, and you want to get it out in the open, but do we really need to know about 'every single fatality' where a bike is involved?
Not having a go, just my point of view! |

Yeah fair enough Barry, i see your point, but bikers are like one big family.
We have a certain bond unlike car drivers so it really does upset some of us when we hear that a fellow member of our 'family' has been killed.

I know mate, I've been riding 14 years. But I still dont think we need to know about everyone who dies after coming off.

And like like Freestyler said we are after all part of one big family, its sad of course but this shit happens everyday |
Dont be silly, you haven't annoyed me at all, I just dont think we need to hear about every single fatality. Someone will die everyday as a result of a road accident, I think 99.9% of people on here are aware of that.
I take care everytime I go out on my bike, experience has taught me that, but sometimes circumstances can be out of your control.
I just dont think its a good idea to post up about bikers getting killed, its something I, probably like a few others on here, dont really want to read about.
Like I said, I'm not having a go, just no need to post every story you see in the papers etc...

500,000 people die in car crashes each year, you must have alot of threads on the site you post on!!
Or do you just mean they post for people they know, who have been killed?
Like I said, no problem with friends etc... as its good to get things off your chest, but no need for people you dont know.
:edit: to say, 500,000 is worldwide, but then we are on the WWW! Still over 3k per annum in the UK alone. |

RIP
there is a point to putting up posts about bike fatalities if you think its relivant,
lets face it there are a few prats who use bcf, who think there bomb proof, maybe these few posts will knock some sence into them as to say even experienced riders get killed, just think about things when your out having a good time, ride safe and sensibly.
oh and watch out for tossers who cant drive, and so on,,,
it just brings it all home mate,i dont know the guy but that doesnt change a thing, ____________________ There is no point in ranting about someone stupid because there is nothing u can do about it. There is no cure for stupid.

Thank you Toby and as it happens it does send a shiver down my spine as he only worked up the road from where I live and a guy from this very same place also a bike mechanic died approx 2 yrs about this time of yr so you see its not just anyone.
Shaun said:
Why, when we first start biking we know the risks, know that we could die quite easily, you're just being as bad as the people who try to tell you how dangerous biking is and that you shouldn't do it.
I will ignore this comment Shaun, I am certainly not being as bad as you say here. I bet you often go along at stupid mph thinking "I will be ok, I wont crash, I am a careful rider". Wrong, its not just yourself but the other idiots also on the road you have to be aware of.
I never posted this to get shit, I simply feel for the guy and his family and it certainly made me even more aware today when I jumped on my bike.
JOE said:
But the difference here is that Island Girl is from the Isle of Wight where things like this are probably very rare, so things like this on the Island are rare and so come as quite a shock. Hence the post.
Exactly Joe, when things like this happen here it does come as a shock and more often than not we DO know them or of them as I did and so many other motorcyclist here, so to those here who have had a go at me I say to you dont shout at me when you dont know what your talking about, and to the others that have supported what I have said thankyou, its nice to see some knew what I was trying to say. |

I, for one, am definitely a safer rider because of these sort of threads. They help to keep things in perspective. It's easy to become overconfident, and having thoughts about your own mortality in the back of your head is not a bad thing.
To not post these sort of threads on here, is a bit like putting your head in the sand, it won’t stop the deaths from occurring. If posting these topics helps to put things in perspective for other people, in the way that it has done for me, then it could one day save a life. If that is the case, then these threads could well be the most important on the forum. After all, what value can you possibly put on life?
Unfortunately death is as much a part of biking, as buying a new bike, seizing an engine, the Moto GP and every other facet of biking. Therefore, in my opinion, these topics have just as much right to be on here as any other bike related topic.
We’re all entitled to our opinion, and I understand where others with opposing views are coming from. All we can really ask is that those people who choose to post these topics make the title clear about what the topic refers to (as this one did today). That gives others the choice as to whether or not they choose to read them. ____________________ Dangerous traffic offences spotted on 50-minute trip: Lost count after 100. Without sounding like I'm having a go (I'm not), can I ask you why it makes you a safer rider?
Do you start out on your journey thinking that you could end up 6ft under before you get to where your going, cause I certainly dont, and the day I do, is the day I give up biking for good.
I dont think reading a thread on an accident is going to have any effect on how you ride, you'll have all forgotten about this thread by next week and even if it did make you think, you'll be back to your old riding style before the week is out.
Now, I've been riding for 14 years and have met 'alot' of like-minded bikers, and I can honesty say, that I've not met a single one who liked to be reminded about what could happen to them just to make them 'be more carefull'!!
I'm sorry if it sounds like im having a go, cause I'm really not. Its just how me, and alot of other people think, and like Shaun says, its just that no one has really commented on it before.
Please, lets not make this into an argument, cause it is sad that he's died, but there really was no need for the thread, and it is like its ramming it down your throat (ooo eerrrr!) that biking is dangerous, and I dont think we need to keep being reminded of that, the aim is to enjoy yourself. |

While I agree with you Barry to some extent, these threads are easy to spot and avoid with the RIP in the title |
