how do you put a bike chain through the frame?

Im always being told i should put my chain through the frame of my bike but how on earth do you put a chain through the frame of a sports bike such as gsxr600K1? Confused

You take the swing arm off.

Or you buy a chain with a link and rivet the link on.

Well the new chain shouln't come as a complete loop, just a length of chain. You then need to take off the cover to the front sprocket off, put the chain on the sprocket, feed it through where it needs to go, put it over the rear sprocket and then link the chain up depending on what kind of fastener it's got. Simple Confused

Err, why put a security chain though your bikes frame?

Just put it through the back wheel, after all its only a detterent, and a thief will get your bike if he wants it no matter how you attach it to your bike.

Besides with the Gixxer being fully faired you'll find it impossible.

I mean a security chain and if i put it through my gsxr6s subframe if the back wheel is taken off so can the chain which puts me in the same situation as just simply putting the chain through the back wheel Confused

If it's through your swingarm it takes a considerable amount longer.

the professional thieve use's liquid nitrogen to freeze the chain then hit it a whack with a hammer. then it just shatters.

na they'll just use to scaffolding pole's cut to size with sthil saw, 4 blokes lift the bike out into van. off with it then use same saw to hack chain off. Twisted Evil

Personally I always put a chain through my front wheel, they're normally about as easy to take off as a rear wheel, however a bike with no front wheel is a lot harder to move than a bike with no rear wheel imho.

I guess I'm just lucky then, on both bikes I've had, I have managed to sucure the chain through the main-frame and down to an anchor point. A 1.6m Almax chain is just about perfect.

Most decent chains these days are freeze-proof. btw.

Which is precisely the reason why people recommend sticking your chain through the frame and then around something sturdy such as a lamp post.

The reason why putting you chain through the swinging arm is no better than through the rear wheel is that when the rear wheel and wheel spindle are removed, the swinging arm is a 'U' shape and so the chain can just be pulled off the end Rolling Eyes


I can just about get my chain through the frame of the bike, but it would be impossible to do when the engine's hot so not really practical.
