Supermoto conversion? What's needed?

Hi guys,

As a summer project i'd quite like to Supermoto up a Yammy DTR.

Right....what would be needed for the task and where should i get the bits involved?

All you really need is wheels and brake caliper adaptor... that'll get you going, not sure which wheels fit, best to ask Smoto Bob as he has a TDR thing.

Just a note; I'm not sure how much more grip decent wheels would give you over getting some ok tyres for your currents wheels.

My trail DR 600 had standard trail wheels with semi-road tyres. There was enough grip to get my knee down and more.

On a 125 therefore it's going to be for show more, I would suspect.

Was the TDR not a 'supermoto' as standard?

Expect to have to get a few spacers etc machined up for your bike.

yeah I think the TDR was like a small 'big trailie' type thing if you see what I mean... but the DTR125... the 125 stroker right?

Haven't they started making these in supermoto trim from the factory now? maybe see what the yamaha guys did to it....

125's aren't the best for supermotos, but you can still arse about on them. +that ones a four stroke.

Looks like he just grabbed a load of rear brake... doubt you could back in a 125 properly, lack of engine braking etc.. I don't know.. but he shouldn't have the brake pressed fully like he seems to have.

Yeah, he has just grabbed a load of rear brake. The rear wheel isn't turning at all. The MZ actually has quite alot of engine braking, I was surprised when I first rode mine but I don't think it would have enough to back in. I'm gonna get a skid plate for mine though It looks a bit 'open' without one.

Think the TDR has 19inch front and 18/17inch rear. With a DT you might be able to swap over some wheels from the TZR.

There was a thread on here a little while ago with a webpage guide on how to do the full conversion... it shouldent be more than a few pages back. But im wearing a dressing gown and cant be arsed finding it....

Its maybe a bit too competition biased, but the website in that thread shows all the areas that are changed to make a proper supermoto.
