stress-ed. maybe this biking lark isn't for me...

i've been into bikes for a while now and so i bought a wee cg125 to learn on. i've been out on it a few times, (i live in North London)and so at the weekend set off down to Brighton with a mate of mine.

i enjoyed it even tho it was a bit hairy at times..

the problem is is that i've felt a bit stressed out since i got back. I know i'm a noobie at it all and it was perhaps too much too soon but i'm wondering if i'm cracked up to all this...or whether i'd just crack up!

i'd love to be a biker but perhaps my subconscious isn't into the idea...

maybe it's just not for me. i'd be gutted tho. Bikes are a big passion of mine and love to be able to enjoy it.

any ideas? or i am i just being a massive wuss and should i just keep on with it? with smaller steps?

Think you answered it yourself. Build up in small steps. Only push yourself as far as you are really happy to do. Couple of hundred mile trip is a fair way for someone with nominal experience.

yeah - perhaps it was a bit much... riding in london for someone who is used to taking the tube everyday is a bit of a culture shock...

we felt a bit silly buzzing into Brighton on our little bikes - but 20 yards away we could pretend we had something bigger..

id agree thats a pretty impressive trip for someone new to bikes

little trips wont be so taxing

i think that sort of trip wd be easier on a bigger bike to be honest so if you did it ok on a little one you are doing pretty good

I hope this will get you feeling better,

I've been riding for a bit over a year now. Out of that year I spent around 2 months riding around my cousins house, a very quiet block, with barley any cars. When I felt that I'm capable and comfortable I went out to a few roads close to his house. I didn't used to filter, I was still not confident. After alot of small steps like those I now ride the bike everywhere. I ride more than 120killometers of motorways whenever I'm on the bike. And almost 300km a day.

I'm not saying start out around your block (you could if you want) but I'm saying start out with whatever you feel is best for you. You'll build up your confidence and abilities gradually and enjoy te fruits of riding (hot girls/ racing Ferrari's etc . What I like about bikes is that no matter how good you are, you can always learn more .

i did aprox 300miles over last satuday and sunday. Loved most of it apart from way to many motorway miles and way too cold

id only covered 500 miles or so before that over 3 weeks of riding. Keep going, maybe was too much too soon

Mate i live in north london and i have done the trip to brighton a few times on my CBR600F and it is a long way and on a cg125 in the cold that is hardcore.

You obvioulsly have a passion for biking, so i think that when you get a bigger bike and the summer comes around again you will be loving it.

Biking in the winter on a 125 is not that fun, i did it and the bike wouldnt run properly because it was so cold and the amazing lack of power when i did the weekly trip to the other side of London, i came home many times with my hands in pain from being so cold.

But just build it up slowly i now look back on my time with my 125 in the winter on L plates and laugh at some of the trips i did and how it only used to run on one cylinder and the other one would kick in at high revs (v twin 125).

If you get through the winter on a 125 you know you are a biker!!!!!

Just stick at it, long trips can be a stress at first, especially on a wee bike.

i don't think i'll be doing it again on my CG. a bigger bike would have been nice on the A3..i thought i was going to get blown off about every 30 seconds!!

i'll get the train next time...

Moving to melbourne next year and looking forwards to doing the ocean roads on a nice 600 some time in the future.

oh, and it took us 5 hours one way and 3.5 the other... set off from queens park at 8.15 and got there at 1pm.

(went back routes alot)

like taking the frickin' stagecoach....
