me and my mates usually do the same thing on a thursday night. Its always been the lads night. Rock n Roll music at our local, after kick out at 11.30ish we usually ride the bikes round to a bit of wasteland where we can get the lad who dirves a car to put his music on (no where near any houses) and we stand around and have a good old chit and chat about everything.

Well our chat last night finished at around half 1 and the temperature had dropped to around -5! Now i was wearing most of my winter stuff, (didnt have my thick jacket, just my leather and 3 layers beneath, but my thermal gloves wear on and my balaclava and woolen snood. But jesus was it cold.

My usual average speed home at that time is around 70mph, last night with black ice i rode at no more than 30 as the bike kept wibbling its arris end around!

It took me nearly an hour to get home, i was so cold i spent 5 mins with my hands pressed against the engine and exhaust so i could operate the key to my locks and then the real pain bit, warming back up. The house was roasting and it made me feel really ill changing temperature that quick.

Its so scary how its gone from mildly cold to freezing in a matter of days. Will it stop me riding though? nope. its all part of it, i know that come summer, when im sweating my bollocks off in my leathers whilst trudgind around matlock i will be praying for a bit of a breeze!

Btw, it was so cold that my thermal gloves didnt stop me from feeling like the ends of my fingers had died!

What do you guys do to stay warm? is there a part of my body i should focus on keeping warm which will aid me in feeling comfy, i was so cold my eyelids felt heavy and my movements were really slow.

I currently wear, a couple of layers under my leather, then one of those big flourecent(sp) jackets that security gaurds wear! A oxford balaclava with a woolen snood my nan made me (awwww). Thermal gloves, Thermal trousers, knox under pads and then jeans. Then my sidi boots with thick socks.

Went to a south west biker pub meet on Wednesday night, 30 miles away in Exeter, though i'd be hardcore and ride the bike, wasn't too bad going there but coming back I was going pretty damn fast just to get home and warm, when I got to my girlfriends I went all pale and felt awfully sick, in bed I had 3 layers on and I was still freezing in the morning. Scary. Confused

last week was meant to be when the bike went into storage but today i had to take the bike in. the ride into work this moring was painful, the ends of my fingers were agony, all motorway riding too.Confused
if i was stopping at lights and junctions then it wouldn't be so bad coz i'll normally just touch the engine to warm my hands up.

Coming home from band practice last night at about 11pm I absoloutly froze. There was ice all over the shop and it just wasn't a very pleasant ride. Especially with a bass on my back. Sad

Typical - I chose the coldest week of the year so far to commute to work on my bike (25 miles each way).. 7am riding along the A444 between Burton and Hinckley. My breath froze on my visor - I couldn't feel my hands after 2 miles (summer gloves!! stupid boy) - and I didn't stop shivering for an hour.. Why do we torture ourselves like this?!

Usually I wear about 9 t shirts, 2 hoodys, neckwarmer, fleece, my big jacket and 2 pairs of trousers. Someone suggested putting newspaper down the front of my jacket to help stop the wind more. Worth a try I guess.

This year I've got insulated, wind proof trousers Very Happy, should be a bit better.

Getting new gloves and under gloves and another neckwarmer. Dont like balaclavas, they restrict my vision too much.

Wave2k: Have you tried thermal work gloves? I got a pair by accident and they're really warm even if you're working outside in the freezing cold.

Ive been wearing t-shirt, work shirt, fleece then flourescent padded jacket, tights (how I hate them), trousers and waterproofs, two pairs of socks and gloves! Yesterday my fingers were sooo painful by the time I got to work that I walked in today and got the OH to come get me tonight on his....well the he the jammy git has muffs and heated handle grips and I was much warmer sat behind him on the way home Mr. Green
Nipped out at lunch time and picked up some thermal inners and tonight dashed into Matalan and picked up some sexy thermal leggins and thick thermal socks! Got another three hr lesson tomorrow so hope it all keeps me warm, mind you we may if its too cold not do the three hrs hopefully.

This week has been rather cold, I leave my home @9:30am and it's bitter until I get to London and it seems to be a bit warmer. Coming home is the worse, I get home @9:00PM and when I get to Croydon and hit the back roads to my home, bugger it's even colder.

I wear a HG jacket and textiles, under that I have thermal underwear, thick long sleeve t-shirt with a thin t-shirt and sweatshirt. I am comfortable in that lot even at the end of the day when I've been on the road for 10 hours or more. I don't get problems starting the bike like a few of you people do, I normally hit the button and let the engine turn over a few times before adding choke. I like to get the oil moving before I actually fire up the bike. In this cold weather I leave the bike warming up for about five minutes, that's all my bike needs. However back in the past when running a Kawasaki GT550 I would have to allow 10 minutes warming up, GT's are bastards in the cold and are prone to carb-icing.

Take your fake ram air ducts off, tape over the holes and go for a ride.. see if it still does it or if it does it less than previous Wink
