£800! Shocked I'd kill for a DRZ. Lovely bikes they are. What a bargain though. Thumbs Up

I find thumpers very easy to ride, my friends EXC450 was nothing really, just had a sensitive clutch, which made it fun. Smile Just take it easy for a while and get to know the bike before you start thrashing the nuts off it. Laughing

your dad got an amazing deal. nice 1

i had a go on a yamaha 450 at the nec offroad it might have been a yzf450 or maybe a wr450. It had enough power to just stay in first at the speeds i was going at. The guy told us to change gear without using the clutch so that you dont loose your grip on the bars. Not a good idea on most bikes but apparently fine on offroad or supermotos. You just drop the revs, change and then give it throttle again. When riding offroad over rough bits, its good to keep everything smooth and even and stand on the pegs keeping your weight forward.

I also had a go on a 450supermoto at the nec and ended up giving it too much throttle and doing an accidental wheelie that shit me up. The acceleration jerks you back so you hand gives even more throttle. To reduce this, you need to sit really far forward to stop the bike coming up.

It harder to accelerate hard on this type of bike than on a sportsbike as the front comes up so easily but you only need to give it as much throttle as you are ready for.

It will be taller and heavier than what you are used to, so take it easy as you wont necessarily be able to put your foot out and stop it falling over in the way you can on a lower lighter bike. I know people who are used to them can but you wont be able to at first.
