A 98 R1 would allow you to travel back in time and fix what once went wrong.

How would riding a powerful bike be affected by having limited use of one arm? I once saw a guy riding a speed triple with only one arm but the R1 has a hell of a top end rush on it doesnt it?

Anyway, there are several disabled bikers charities out there that im sure would be more than willing to offer you advice about getting back on bikes and giving you practical advice on coping with your injuries rather than simply telling you to give up on biking:

Think it's best to see what kind of mobility you can get out of it first.

I don't see the power of the bike as being relevant at all, good technique shouldn't have you hanging on with your arms anyway.

Limited function in one arm is no reason at all to give up bikes, I've seen people who've lost a whole arm still riding the bejeezus out of their machines - it's all about adapting.

See how your arm is after surgery and consider moving the clutch if it's a pain to use. Other than that, you should be fine using just your right for steering.

Anyway, the 98 R1 steers you, not the other way around. Wink

Please feel free to explain how a man with one arm uses his clutch and indicates.

The clutch lever is normally mounted infront of the front brake lever, so you pull the clutch before the brake. Probably has the indicator switch on the right, too.

There was a bloke on scratching (I think it was that anyway) who had lost the use of his left arm when a car did a U turn on him. He actually raced with one arm, the other being strapped inside his leathers. He engineered it so his right thumb could be used as a clutch I think. Either way he was still bloody good, unfortunately life decided to kick him in the balls again as all the use of his right arm left him with arthritus in his wrist Thumbs Down

Fair play to the guy though

With difficulty? Smile

All the controls are switched onto one side of the handlebar.

after more talks with the sugeon i will probably retain full elbow, wrist and hand movement but shoulder may be less than 40% of normal.
looking down the barrel of a life disabled really takes the wind from your sails.
but it could be worse.
cant imagine how crappy it must be to be the next of kin going to pick up the last effects and identfy the corpse
