Sometime soon after christmas I will be hopefully upgrading my laptop. I am just looking for possible interests as I would need to sell my current laptop as quickly as possible after buying my new one.

I have had this laptop since July 2005 and have been using it for both business and pleasure. Since the laptop has been moved quite a lot it has picked up a couple of superficial scratches to the outside of the case, the dvd writer's cover has lost a lug and therefore can be accidently knocked off easily and finally and more serious injury it has aquired is that it now has a blemish towards the center of the screen about half the size of a 5 pence piece. I will admit that the blemish annoyed the crap out of me for the first 2 weeks or so but now I don't really notice it anymore.

The laptop is complete overkill for just meeting office requirement's but if you are going to be using it for gaming then you are in for a treat. I have played Half Life 2 on this and it has been able to handle it with maximum settings with completely playable frame rates.

The laptop is a Acer Aspire 5024WLMi.

The specification can be found at www.acernotebooks.co.uk just go to Laptops - Aspire - 5020 Series (it is the best specification in the series) and from there you will be able to see that these are still retailing at £900.

Taking into account it has some superficial damage and more importantly it is second hand I am looking for £600 ono.

Even if you are not interested in the laptop but have a greater knowledge on second hand values of computer equipment I would still like your input.

Hi, I hate the way laptops hold their value and more so top spec ones, but i would think the blemish in the screen may make that one hard to sell on, shame because the price would be about right i would of thought.

Shame you can't try and get the screen sorted under warranty.

does it have the current offer of 512 meg of ram, or the original 256meg?

the current retail of the Acer Aspire 5024WLMi with 512Mb Ram is £840 inc VAT

I can pick up a laptop with a 40 gig drive, 128meg ram, 1.6mhz Centrino, and DVD-RW for under £600 inc VAT new

you might find it hard to shift a damaged, second hand laptop for similar money

Daz | N00by: Tell me about it. Its quite hard to describe the blemish. If you are a perfectionist I don't even think of buying it as it will annoy you. But to be honest you don't see it if you aren't looking for it. Its basically just a small patch which is very slightly darker than the rest of the screen.

DucatiEVO: I don't wish to stain my advert but acer are not the most helpful people about.

Feef: It has 1gb of ram. Yes the below laptop seems to be a good laptop for office work but I can probably bet that it has an onboard graphic chipset whereas this has a X700 128mb graphics card, which will make a huge difference to any graphics intense applications or games you may wish to use/play.

Feef (Continued): From looking at the specifications of the laptop you posted. It seem that for £600 you can get a 'New' laptop which is nearly obsolete in an gaming enviroment, except for the flashy Centrino processor they have thrown into it. I didn't even realise XP would work with 128mb of ram.

Also 'Damaged' is such a harsh word.

If it's any help, I have the Acer Aspire 5002 LMI (I think) and it's a great laptop, depite being of a lower spc than yours. I still got the Turion processor though. Razz

No manufacturer will replace a monitor if it has less than 3 dead pixels, and won't if it only has blemishes. Rolling Eyes Mad

I will get a couple of pictures of the blemish up later tonight.

Yeah I find that the Turion processor seems to be very quick. I used to have some benchmarks which showed it was only slightly slower than the equivalent Centrino. Also it is 64 bit which will hopefully future proof it for the new Windows Longhorn and XP 64 operating systems.

Yes you are correct. I know it isn't too bad but it is still noticable.

I would put it on ebay, there are some true mugs out there that will snap that up a treat.

I just sold my phone, i stated it did not work and the screen was faulty but it still sold for £41. I bought it about a year ago for like £75. Laughing

Stick a reserve on and if it doesn't sell then no loss but it will give you quite a good indication as to what its worth in the real world. Thumbs Up

I was considering puting it on ebay anyway but I would prefer to sell it in person as it is quicker, easier and any questions or issues can be resolved quickly in person.

I was just seeing what interest the laptop would produce at the moment as I would need to sell it as quickly as possible after buying a new one, which won't be until after the new year.

Would dropping the price to £500 plus post and packaging create anymore interest?
