...a DT125X! Mr. Green

I bought it today, get it delivered next Saturday, and i can't wait!!!

I was thinking about re-doing my CBT though before i hop on, as it's been almost a year since i did my original - what do you guys reckon? Can't hurt to revise lifesavers and stuff, or should i just go for it straight away Question

If I was you I'd ride it round the local residential streets to get used to it at non-busy times. Chances are you'll stall a few times and have dodgy getaways, but it'll be a lot less stressful than with traffic etc.

Hi

Congratulations.

Not sure on the CBT. There is a fair bit taught on the CBT that is common sense and you would spend a fair amount of time standing around not learning anything.

I would be more tempted to try and get a few lessons.

Any luck getting the MCN lessons sorted?

All the best

Keith

Nah, that was a bit of a flop. They wanted me to travel all the way to Bristol and stay there for a week while i did the lessons and eventually the test. It would have cost me more in travel and accommodation than it would to do the test myself, at home. When i told them i wasn't going to Bristol for that reason, and asked to do it in Southampton, i never heard from them again? Confused

Ah well, at least this way i dont have to rush things, and it was still very cool to win and go to Croft, VIP style Thumbs Up

I reckon there wd be someone on here in Bristol who wdnt mind having you stay over for a week. Especially if you posted a pic to remind ppl what you look like. I seem to remember you are quite pretty so Im sure there is a male biker in Bristol who wouldnt mind you staying over.

Having said that, now you have your DT, getting over to Bristol might not be such a hassle.

Mmm, not so hot. Might be worth chasing it up and seeing if you can get someone local to Bristol to put you up for the week (and with the DT you will be mobile enough that you do not need to be THAT local).

All the best

Looks like that you are planning to go to places. This bike will get you there. For the first while just feel out the bike don't try to do any stunting with it.After a few hours of riding you will feel confident and ready to do some serious driving

It is a nice looking bike, but after all yamaha have done to style the bike, they leave it with naff mirrors and lights. I reckon the lights on the XT125 look better than that.

Just don't let that thing get too close to Smoto Bob. He's got a terrible obsession with small trail bikes and supermotos.

Have fun riding it, but as for the CBT, don't bother. You've only been off the road for a year, and plenty will come back to you in that time.

Going to your training school and asking for a one on one refresher lesson will be much better, because that's what i did when i hopped onto gears at 17.

That's actually a really nice looking bike!

Lessons are around £20 for an hours tution in most places, I believe. Would probably make more sense having a couple of those, where you could ask the instructor to focus on the areas you feel less confident in. He could also assess your riding and give you some advice.

Chase up the MCN thing - sounds pretty badly organised if a national competition's prize can ONLY be used in Bristol, of all places!

I think i will - I've been given a few local, reputable riding schools from the shop i bought the bike from. I'll give them a ring Monday to book some lessons Thumbs Up

There's no need to put so much pressure on one person like that Wink MCN said they wanted me to claim my prize in the summer, so when they did the follow up story people would still remember. It's been six months since i won, so im not going to get my hopes up that they'll still honour the prize. But like i said, at least this way i can do things at my own pace, and if i do fail my test (when i get round to taking it), at least i wont end up disgraced and shamed in a national newspaper Laughing

Thanks for all the advice guys! Thumbs Up

why dont you shame them into letting you do the test/lessons elsewhere....write to them detailing how you are going to be sending articles to other bike magazines..explaining to them about the prize you won and how unreasonable they were over where you did your training emphasising, that you did want your prize but couldnt afford accomodation etc....i bet you will get what you want as they will not want an article like that appearing, and other mags would be more than happy to oblige. Nice bike. Thumbs Up

But as for the MCN thing - you need be more assertive young lady! Remind them that they should be encouraging more people to start riding, and that their attitude towards you is not doing that right now...

Maybe ask for subsidised (as opposed to free) lessons at a more local school instead? Every penny counts...especially when you've just got yourself a new bike...

She's quite welcome to stay, but whether she'd want to live in a ridiculously untidy student house with 4 lads is another matter.

I'm sure they'd make an attempt to accodate your training closer to home, if not kick up a bit of a fuss, you won, you deserve it!! They'd be getting the publicity out of it!

Don't mean to rub it in, but I am convinced I could have done you one for cheaper. I work for CMC, one of Yamaha's biggest UK dealers. Out of interest what did you pay for it?
