I have found an SR124, K reg, 25K on the clock taxed and MOT'd in reasonable condition for its age but I would like to have some work for the winter anyway. I was just wondering if £325 sounds like a good price on the bike. Question .

I have a SR125 which is a couple of years older than yours. It is a very reliable bike and mine only really starts playing up when it is snowing. They are definately not very cool and not great of you are tall. Also they corner fairly badly in the fact that their centre of balance is so low that it is like trying to corner a sofa. Mine also isn't very fast with a top speed of around 65 if I am lucky. If you want something that isn't too stressful and is not going to let you down then go for it. The parts for it are quite cheap and easy to hold of and the seat is comfy (these things are important). Going round town I find it quite nippy but find once I get out on the open roads I find it difficult. It is a good first bike for some but I can imagine others getting bored easily. Personally I love mine. Hope this is a little helpful.

One of the few 'first bikers' who don't want to start with a new bike! Good choice. Thumbs Up

Forgot to say I paid the complete rip off price of £800 for mine last year and it had 11,000 on the clock so yours sounds a pretty good price.

I ticked 'good first time bike' as it is! I had one as my first and it was great fun - went literally everywhere on it, including over fields... don't ask Laughing

As to the 'yes' its a good bike full stop, well that depends doesn't it. If you want to commute on it in an urban environment it's ideal....... if you are trying to keep up with your friends on sports 600's then its not so ideal. Overall though it's like any of the jap 125 4 stokes it will do flat out all day long on 100mpg Thumbs Up

At that price it's a bargain. Just make sure you change the oil every 1000 miles.

I clicked 'good first bike' because it is.

I could also have clicked 'yes' because it does exactly what it was designed to do in a fuss free manner without pretending to be something it is not.

Hi,

The SR was perfect for me. I was never going to buy a new 125 as I'm too tight, also I knew I wouldn't have it for too long. A great machine to learn on, and after a run down the A3, it's 65mph top speed inspired me to get the DAS done as soon as I could.

Mine was a '95 with 28K. No MOT or tax. Bought it for £200, put a foot rest rubber on it for the MOT and in the few months I had it spent nothing more on it except petrol. Sold it for £400. Perfect. I even took time to clean it which is more than can be said for my XJ.

aaah yes, about that, well Embarassed ..............

First time I've tried to add a pic. I must have done something wrong. It was going to be a pic of my nice little green SR that I was once so proud of I took pics (or were the pics just for Ebay??), but it never worked out, then I thought you all know what they look like so didn't bother.

What has been said also makes another good point. If you buy it now and don't crash it in a serious way. You will make a profit on it if you sell it again in the spring/summer.

Bikes are cheap just now, after the first good, sunny weekend in spring people start thinking "I would like a motorbike, better buy a 125 to do my test on." and the prices go up.

January is a good month to buy many things, motorbikes and tents in particular.

Aaaaaah. Bless little bike. They even look comfortable.

Mine had dents in the tank. Especially after I fell off it riding it round the garden drunk one afternoon. I stopped by the shed and put my arm out to lean but missed. Laughing

Agree with you there Stinkwheel (Again! I always seem to agree with what I read of your text) Winter is a great time for buying all Summer hobby bits. I was into boats for a bit and did well with the seasonal price changes there too. Need a hobby I can ride to, that I don't need to carry equipment.

Ooh. Green laning. Time for a DT methinks. What is it with these damn Yamahas? Everytime I think of a bike, the first that jumps into my mind is a Yamaha.

Camby, if it looks good and goes ok, get it. Seems everyone who's had one was happy enough. £350 isn't really alot of money, and what are the choices for that amount. Keep it in good nick and you should get your money back if and when you get bored of it.

I must add, consider where you live and what you want it for. I'm off to Ebay now to look for a DT or similar.

i hate sr125's but at £300 I think you wd have a bargain if it runs. If it runs at the moment it will probably run for quite a while.

id prefer a cg125 by miles though.

normally id suggest an rs125 but not really a sensible choice if you are on a budget as a cheap one could cost you more on repairs than an expensive one

ive not tried a dt125, but ive heard they are good and you might be able to get one for just a little bit more

Had a SR and CG for lessons a few years ago. Both shit, both slow, both nasty but the CG was nicer to ride.

However, they're learner bikes so they do what they needed to do.

Couldn't wait to get back onto my Derbi Senda 50cc after my lessons as it was faster, more comfortable, had better brakes, smoother gearbox, brighter lights, better suspension, better conering.

If i was a leaner again i'd go for a XR125 / XLR125 or whatever teh trail bikes are called as teh CG's/SR's ar so small.
