Hello peeps!

I've been riding mini-motos and crossers for about 3 years now. I'm a competant rider, and can handle myself in a sticky situation.

My question isn't in relation to how to handle bikes, but more about how to handle riding on the road in traffic.

Any advice as to what to look out for, or things to avoid? I'm not new to riding, but am new to the road.

Oh, i have a Derbi GPR 50. Smile

There's many many things to learn.

Good observation is one of the best:
Look ahead, what's coming up?
Does that car look like it might pull out, does the road tighten up, is that car going to turn into the side road as you overtake, that kid who isn't under control, are they likely to run out into the road.. you get the idea.

Thank you! I guess practice makes perfect, and I just need some experience.

I am having some lessons at the moment, so I'm sure they'll teach me anything I need to know. Just wondered if there were any tips that aren't strictly "by the book".

Test is coming up in the new year ... I'll go practice! Smile

That website is nasty instigator! It hurts my poor eyes. Sad

There are loads of things you need to know to ride well on the road, and lots of them only come with practice, but i can tell you the only piece of advice my dad gave me when i started riding:

"Assume that everyone else on the road is actively trying to kill you."

This has so far served me well, hope it helps.

best bit of advice i can give is to treat everyone around you like a fecking idiot, expect them to do what idoits do. I have came off my bike 3 times and once was my fault the rest was car drivers.
