Well I managed to fail my second test yesterday, in a worse manner than my first one. Only had 4 minors and failed my u-turn in my first test.

Had a couple of refresher lessons mainly to cover u-turns. The first lesson on the Monday took place where I had messed up on the turn on my 1st test (Musselburgh sea-front). Managed to u-turn with no problems for about an hour. The Wednesday lesson took place in a different side street and for about an hour I only managed about two successful turns. Went back to the original u-turn site and could u-turn for fun yet again.

My second test on Friday however was a complete mess...

Set off in high spirits along the road. The examiners first task for me was to pull in to the side of the road. The road in question had speed bumps, traffic lights with zig-zag lines and many little junctions. This got me flustered from the off as every time I went to pull in I thought there was a hazard near so ended up going a couple hundred yards up the road from where the instruction was given.

Composed myself and went through a couple more tasks until we got to Musselburgh and went to perform the walking u-turn. I still had the bike in gear so had to knock it into neutral before walking round. Sat on the bike, started the engine and went to do the turn. And what do I do but hit the kerb on the far side. At that point my head just went down and just sat there shaking my head. After this I just went to pot. Set off afer the turn and at the next set of traffic lights I stalled the bike but just after I had set off, so another serious fault. Near the end of the test I was moving over to avoid a parked car and a car behind had to brake. I had seen the car but the examiner said he was moving very fast, but I should have made my manoeuver earlier and gave me another serious fault. All in all, I ended up with 3 serious and 7 minors.

After my first test when I kept it together after messing up the u-turn, failing my second test and falling apart has really knocked my confidence. Rob, my instructor, couldn't believe the sheet when I showed him and said that it was a completley diferent ride from what I had done on the way to the test. The u-turn has been my bane for both tests, and before both tests I manage to have perfect rides and u-turn with no problem.

Sorry for the bit of a ramble but I needed to vent my frustration at failing again. Sad

If I was you buddy i'd put off doing the test for a while and practise on your own. The very fact you can't do U-turns every single time means your not ready for your test yet.

I waited to do my test until I could do circles in the road none stop, u-turn to u-turn to u-turn. Yes it took a lot of time (4 months) and I really wanted to do my test and get a bigger bike but it was worth it.

The extra knowledge that I could u-turn without challenge and had complete control of the bike helped me to relax a little bit and your ability to keep calm is a huge hurdle to cross in order to complete the test.

Unlucky dude, I know how you feel. I cocked up the U-turn on the first test with one minor and then made a hash of the second test with several serious mistakes and no minors. Thankfully I passed on the third attempt after a shitty ride and got five minors. More practise didn't really help me, certainly not at the price I was paying.

Keep on at it, the value of the full licence is much, much more than its cost in money. Chin up! Thumbs Up

Unlucky mate.
For the u-turns the best bit of advice i can give is what i was told which was 'instead of looking down or where your turning look at something on the side of the road far ahead on the side you are turning to. Dont ask how or why it works it just does!' If you dont understand look at my drawing, a bit rubbish but you get the idea.

Go out and try it it will work everytime! Thumbs Up
Hope this helps and good luck for your next test mate, chin up.
Dan

It's difficult to find the motivation, but keep going.

I failed twice (quite spectacularly 2nd time as well). Nearly quit, but decided to give it one more go. Passed this morning and it's the best feeling.

Keep at it, you'll get there Thumbs Up

Calm down dear Thumbs Up

If you take EVERTHING into account on here, you wouldn't even step outside your house.

Chill out.

Yes, there are thousands of people who fail their test.

I too was one of them (oh well, I failed, must try better next time, and all that).

But hey! Shit happens, don't it ?

It doesn't necessarily mean YOU are going to fail, does it ?

Go for it young man. Practice, practice, practice and be determined Thumbs Up

You know you can do it, irrespective of how many attempts it takes Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the comments people! Smile

I know I can ride a bike and do the u-turn, its just applying and holding myself together on the test. Most (if not all) of the mistakes on my second test came after the u-turn as my head just went down at that point.

Well anyways... the 3rd test is now booked (was waiting on training school to see when they had slots booked) so as everyone says (hopefully) "3rd time lucky!" Wink
