Hi, I changed my downpipes for a set of micron stainless steel with a custom made end can.

These where taken from my other zx9r b3 model.

Now for some reason the downpipes and exhaust get extremely hot within about 1 minute of riding.

Im pretty certain this is due to poor carb set up and need of a rejet to accomodate the new can/pipes. BUT i swopped the carbs over aswell from the same bike i took the exhaust system from, which i would assume have already been rejetted as that bike never heated up, but still gets very hot quickly with no improvement.

How do i go about the rejet. I know how to do it mechanically wise, but how do i know what size jets to use. Is it just trail and error or am i just best to book it in at the local dyno tester and let them do it.

Also i dont know if this is relevant but the bike still rides spot on with no power loss, flat spots. The temp gauge is normal etc. and at high revs i get a flame 1-2 feet long out the can to my pillions delight??!?!

Its the flame that bothers me as i would have thought it would have to be running lean to create the hot pipes and can, but rich to induce the flames?

any help would be appreciated?

Sorry to all that have heard this problem before, i did ask a few months ago but i have only just got around to looking at the 9r.

Hi, i'd book it for a dyno run just to find out what the running mixture is like and adjust accordingly. I'm just wondering if the airbox was reduced in size from the b1 to b3 models as this would alter the mixture etc... let us know how it goes, Dan Thumbs Up

That would be a straight through end can yes?

You are running so lean you have a very high chance of seizing your engine. Don't put it on a Dyno it will probably seize.

Stop using it and fit a dynojet kit then put it on a dyno.

Thanks for the responses.

The air box are standard from the B1 - B4 but a good idea there. The only difference to the mechanics o between the model is the B3 & B4 have a water jacket around the carbs to keep them nice and warm during cold weather.

I will order a dynokit and take it from there. Although if i had taken the carbs from the B3 aswell as the pipes and can I would have thought they would have been already set up to be used with the exhaust system.

Also god knows why but someone has broken in to my garage and nicked my headlight???? The thing that i found funny was they removed the front fairing to steal it, then they put the front faring back on for me!!!!

Oh well ebay here i come
