My main beam works ok and my sidelight works ok but my dipped beam is no different from my sidelight, are the bulbs dual element or is it an electrical problem?

The main beam and dipped beam are normally both produced by the same bulb with two elements, shielded to shine either upwards or downwards, reflecting in different directions from the reflector. I imagine the dipped beam filament is broken.

It is unlikely to be an electrical problem, and replacing the bulb is a quicker and easier way to see.

Remember not to touch the glass when fitting it if it is a halogen bulb (most of them are). If you do so inadvertantly, wash it in meths.

They blow in fairly short order. Embarassed Whistle From what I can gather, the oil from your fingers left on the glass heats up and creates a local hotspot, creating a stress concentration, which makes the glass crack.

I have had a couple gone with a impressive result, they ended up smoked on the inside, so looked as though someone had filled them with mercury or something. Laughing

Vibration kills bulbs fairly convincingly too.

.

If you do touch it then clean it with meths or lighter fluid. Just wait for it to dry before you turn the lights on Twisted Evil
