So judging by recent threads this is a subject that's on people's minds lately, what with some decent biking weather around, and the scameras out in force.
And it's VERY much on my mind, as I have just received a letter requesting I furnish confirmation of my details to those lovely people of Heddlu Dyfed-Powys - mentioned elsewhere, it's 91 in a 60 limit.
So ACPO says it's a summons, a nice little trip to Wales sans personal transport (just in case - and as I live in Oxfordshire, a real pain but there we go).

I've been told everything from "don't worry, 3pts and £100" (which I find unlikely) to a ban.

My license is currently technically clean, but with an SP30 from 2010, and a ban from 2008.

So what does the mighty BCF think? Can I relax a bit, or am I looking at getting back on the road sometime from October/later?

Well, if they endorse your license as many times as you have posted this then you are fucked.

Looking at previous convictions on the website below, looks like you may get away with 6 points.

Using the table at the bottom of the page https://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Accused_Home/SpeedVSFines/SpeedVSFines.htm I would say 6 points and depending on whether you have a job, a reasonably large fine.

Send it off, wait for response - speculating won't change that. Personally I think they will offer you a fpn.

I got 3 points and a £150 for doing 86 in a 50. That was in glasgow and had to attend court for it.

92 in a 60 I got 4 points and £400 after much remorse during my court visit. Would have been 6 and 600 but he liked the way I presented myself.

Yeah, I know, I should just wait and see, but a few people have said a possible ban so it just won't quit - gotta admit, I was a bit worried about that.
Consensus, or majority, plus useful link (cheers unluckyluke Thumbs Up ) have now got me thinking I'm a bit safer than I thought, although, yes j4mes, I will be making every effort to give a favourable impression, i.e. suited and booted and suitably humble.

You can sometimes avoid a ban for speeding (unless in extreme cases) if you can prove your work is car-dependent.

Someone I know from the company I work for, quite high up, got flashed at 105 in a 50, it was a random A-road on or near the Welsh border.

Would've been an insta-ban, but someone he knows who is also a Justice of the Peace, attended court with him and argued that without his license he can't work.

Got off with 6 points and about £500 fine.

That really pisses me off....

It should mean you are more careful when on the road... Not still drive like a tit Twisted Evil

To me anyone using that argument would get a double length ban Laughing

And then you get to support him on the dole via your taxes??

I'd rather they got a humungous fine and keep the license.

I have used this myself to get out of a ban. Six points on license, another offence with 6 points pending => court appearance.

Looking like I was going to scoop the accumulator but argued undue hardship. To be honest hardship to yourself is not seen as a good enough reason, as you say you should be aware that you are on thin ice and not be a tit, like I was! However unnecessary hardship to others is a defence, for me it was wife and kids, mine was a single income family, self employed, no license => no work, wife doesn't drive, live in small village with limited public transport etc.

Represented myself at court as not offering any real defence as they had me bang to rights on the offence just trying to keep my license. Made a written submission beforehand with a gulty plea. Must have done OK as instead of 6 points, £200 fine and a 6 month ban I got 8 points, £700 fine and no ban. Total of 14 points on my license for just under a year until the first 6 expired. They even gave me a 20% discount on the fine for early guilty plea.

Told in no uncertain terms that ANY offence whilst over 12 pts would be immediate ban for longer period and heavy fine and that this defence was a one time deal. Amazing how carefully you drive after that.

Not proud of the whole saga but throwing it out there for info. Don't even know what the success rate is but its possible if you have genuine problems with loss of license. It was also good to see that sometimes the legal system does have a degree of flexibility and common sense.

I'm not really in a position to plead any kind of hardship case, so will be taking it on the nose.
The fact that biking is all I've really got at the moment is, obviously, neither here nor there. It's a risk many of us take to have a bit of fun on motorcycles, so I accept if I'm caught breaking the law, then I get the punishment coming to me.
The worrying thing for me is I thought I was being careful in those places where any speeding would be unadvisable - didn't spot the van (?) that caught me, and would have been in a place I thought it was safe(r) to do it. I have calmed down considerably since my younger days of course, but think I will now need to re-assess again.
Unfortunately, I can't really afford the whole track day thing to let off that steam/get it out of the system, and it's not really my thing anyway.
Very worrying for those who drive/ride for a living, but at least the courts do take that into account (next post someone saying it wasn't for them? Laughing )

Fair enough. A ban and a block from any state funded support. Go stack shelves in tescos, or starve to death, up to him.*

*Yes, I'm aware this will never happen, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't.
