Just seen this story...

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/dorset/4510816.stm

It mentions that a man was hit by a water biker. Now I was a bit confused at this until I saw a quote a bit further down which goes "It's opened up the floodgates for irresponsible jet [water bikers] riders to go out and do what they want without any repercussions". The squared brackets shows that the person making the quote didn't actual say water biker but more likely said jet ski. So why have the BBC changed jet ski to jet water bike? Everyone knows what a jet ski is, so why change apart from trying to portray road and water ( Rolling Eyes ) bikers in a bad light.

ps : You can tell I'm a touch bored on night shift and reading every news article about.

I belive that the word "Jet-ski" was actually a trade name used by one on the makers (rather like Hoover & vacuum cleaners). In some parts of the world they are known as water-bikes (along with a few other choice names that rhyme with banker, hat, front, etc. Twisted Evil )

They are also known as Personal Water Craft (PWC).

I found this very amusing :- https://www.west.net/%7Elpm/hobie/archives/v1-i2/humor.shtml Very Happy Shocked

I agree, sounds like a crafty way for the media to link the negative sotry with bikers everywhere.

If there's a boat accident, they don't call the perpetrator a water-driver do they.

Waterbikes and Jetskis are different things as far as I know. When I was little I went Jetskiing with my Uncle a few times. Once there was a group of people with a waterbike. During a whole day, no-one managed to stay on it longer than 30seconds as it was really difficult to balance on. Kind of like a sitdown jetski crossed with a motorbike really.
