As im sure rob (klr600) will start a thread on soon, ive found out just how much the smod hates me Laughing

Now as you know i charge the battery when im not using it.
Somehow, ive killed it entirely.

Well i know you are meant to do something with the plugs at the top, but the buggers wouldnt come out, so i gave up.

Now i have this sorry state. I will post the effect of leaving it alone for a little bit. It shoots back up somewhere higher Confused

Im confused. If i top up the battery cells with deionised water, will it work? How do i avoid it doing this again?

That definitely needs topping up!!! My dad went schitzo on me for expecting my battery to work at over half full - that will not work!!! De-ionised water should work fine although if ya have charged it like that you may have damaged cells. Worth a shot b4 ya pay out for a new one!! Thats my opinion hope it helps.

You have 'Over Charged' that battery and 'Boiled' off the electrolyte.
What kind of charger are you using?
Too much amps/charge rate too often for too long will kill it.

You will need a new battery as that one looks goosed now.

Why do you need to charge it all the time?

Was the battery defective and not holding a charge?

You only need to remove the tops to allow the gasses from the charging process to escape. (The gas escaping is the water you are now missing.)

Too many questions.. Sad

You could use piss water but it affects the lead/acid reaction and would reduce the battery life.
Distilled is what you need not the stuff scraped from the inside of the fridge tho.

What charger are you using on it?

I wouldn't use anything but a trickle charger (Opimate etc.) on a bike battery.

Try topping it up and chucking it on a trickle charge for a bit, chances are that its screwed though.

If you do need to get a new battery, stick it on charge for a bit before you use it on the bike, otherwise you will be limited to about 80% charge for the life of the battery.

Optimate is not a trickle charger. If you have used a trickle charger, that's probably boiled your acid. Not recommended as they can cause the battery to explode. Confused If you top them up with water, just put enough in to cover the plates. Don't overfill it! Once it's charged you can check the specific gravity of the batteries (testers are cheap) to see how it is after you have charged it. Also check the voltage doesn't drop too low on crank.
